OK no do not wash your hair before you do it ~~now first apply to the mid shaft which where the new grwoth starts at the top but not the scalp down to about a inch from the very bottem after you get this all on by taking 1/4 inch slices applying the color then go back and apply it to the total new growth scalp and work it down to the very ends this reason is because the scalp will provide alot of heat and it will speed up the process faster and u will have darker roots also saving the ends to last will be best cause there the most pourous and will suck in that color faster!!!after u are all done wait 20 min test strip it then wash it out yes use shampoo and a very good conditioner stylist here goodluck

Yes, apply it to the roots first and then at the very end of the processing time, do a run-through (whereby you just take the coloring solution and quickly run it through the rest of your already processed hair).
Do not wet your hair before applying. Your hair should be clean for the coloring to take but it should not be that freshly washed or your scalp will be irritated. Give yourself a good clarifying shampoo 1-3 days before coloring and use minimal products. V05 makes an excellent clarifying shampoo that smells great and is inexpensive. It is green.
The color should not shampoo out if you wash afterwards. Just follow the directions in your hair coloring kit and you should be fine. If the coloring is semipermanent, you may get some fading but if it is permanent, you should not have fading.

I am re-dying my hair because my black roots are growing out. Am I supposed to apply it onto the roots first, wait, then apply to the rest of the hair? YES... COMB THRU ALL HAIR THE LAST 5 MINUTES.
Also, am I supposed to wet my hair before applying or not? NO, DRY HAIR ONLY.
And will the color wash off if I shampoo right after? DEPENDS UPON IF YOU USE PERMANENT HAIR COLOR OR 6-WEEK FADING KIND. USE SHAMPOO FOR COLOR-TREATED HAIR, REGARDLESS.
Because I don't think I am supposed to shampoo before. NO, YOU'RE NOT. BUT WASHING COLOR OUT OF YOUR HAIR WASHES IT, REALLY.

No, you just apply the dye everywhere unless you're just doing a touch up then just do the roots. You're not suppose to wet your hair before dying. Make sure you shampoo 24 hours before you dye and do not shampoo right after dying. Wait 24 hours again and then shampoo.

Apply to roots first, then to the rest of the hair, do not wash before, do not wet your hair, this won't work, and you can shampoo right after.

Your dying your hair. So it doesnt matter what you dye 1st.... just make sure theres an even amount of color on all the hair.
You hair is supose to be dirty (not washed for a while) when you dye your hair.
You dont wet your hair before dying! Leave it totally dry.
When you leave the color on for the amount of time your supose to, wash it off.
When you wash it off you can stop washing it off when the water turns white instead of the color.
When your done washing it then you condition it right after. In the box it comes w/ a conditioner. Use that.
Then you dont wash your hair again or anything... thats it. You need to not wash it for about 3 days to make sure the color is in.

apply dye to dry unwashed hair. roots first, leave for whatever is stated on the manufacturer's guide then apply to rest of hair. colour shouldn't wash off immediately after as the colour molecules will have entered your hair. try not to shampoo it too often right after dying though.

All of your question is really based upon what product you are using in order for us to answer. It sounds like you are lightening your hair, but how light are you going? Are you using a bleach? What strength is your developer? You need to come back on to answers and put in more detail (it will ask you if you would like to ) telling us more about what, when, where, and color. Good Luck! And Take Care!

Umm.. I dont think it really matters..
I wouldnt wash it first.. unless you have hair products. [gel, spray, ect..] And if you leave it on long enough it wont wash out aftwords. you should probly leave it on for 30-45 min.
