Greetings. we are misusing our military criminally. We staged a illegal invasion and illegal occupation on a foreign country and alienating all of the people there in the process while our government robs them and our troops kill as many as possible. We have turned it into a guerilla war that there is no winning possible on. When a nation behaves as we have done here the only way to win is to totally kill everyone there and declare victory. There is no longer a government there that can surrender, nor would the American government accept a surrender as long as there is still oil to be stolen. This already is another Vietnam. no question of that. Even our idiot leader has said so on television lately. In Vietnam we managed to kill over 2 million Vietnamese, including civilians, and get over 55,000 of our own troops killed. we have killed and mutilated over 100,000 Iraqis so far. and our own troop deaths, counted real and not the phony way the government counts them, is over 15,000 so far and the actual amount in all probability much higher when all the deaths that the phony war causes are considered. like suicide of troops after serving in Iraq, those that die of their wounds after they recieve their substandard medical care at the hands of our VA hospitals. And the deaths from psychological damage the war causes to troops minds. There is no winning possible in Iraq, any more then there was any winning possible in Vietnam. just continued death gladly paid with the lifes of American sons and daughters by parents that should never have been allowed to breed who sacrifice their children for the glory of a insane leader like ours.

i responded a question like this in the previous: i dont think of iraq can win the conflict in iraq, through fact the iraqi human beings don't be attentive to a thank you to function in a central authority that's a democracy. to my wisdom(and that i would be incorrect)iraq has never had that throughout the previous. the individuals (in my view)which attempt to establish a democracy don't be attentive to how, they are able to no longer through fact of al-quida won't enable it. there are lots of individuals battling against it over there, human beings like that are fearful of a democracy(the terrorists i advise)all they be attentive to is oppression and suppression. in short it is going to likely be very difficult to win that combat and set up a gov. w/out the U. S. leaving troops there to enforce the guidelines and so on. basically my opinion, take it for what its well worth sorry if i offend anybody

Iraq isn't a war like ww2, the insurgents are more like criminals, like the mafia. They hide amongst the civilian population which must be complicit. They don't wear uniforms and fight in the open like soldiers but hide behind women and children like cowards. It will take more time. On the other hand, the times American forces faced uniformed legitimate troops, the American forces sustained many more casualties.
Before you start spouting off about Vietnam, I suggest you really study the Vietnam war. The US military was not defeated. The communists had the most powerful ally on earth in 1975 when they won, the Democrats in Congress.

It took the British-led forces 145 months to finally defeat the Communist guerrilla forces in the Malayan emergency. Insurgencies usually take years, sometimes decades to defeat.
However, I don't think America's willing to stick around in Iraq that long (far too costly in terms of lives and cold, hard money), and it doesn't look like the current strategy is all that effective. Hearts and minds, people. Hearts and minds.

What is wrong is that we don't seem to have control of the situation any more. The president has usurped broad powers in the name of "security", much of it in violation of our own Constitution. The Congressmen and women are too timid to stand up to him. This "war" should never have happened in the first place. Now it's going to be going on longer and it will be more dangerous and harder to extricate ourselves. It's ruining our economy - for the profit of a few cronies I believe. I was in college during Vietnam, and I feel that this situation is much more dangerous, especially when Bush is talking about WW3 already, about going to war with Iran. He's basically talking out of his rear about everything and the entire world has lost respect for America. There is no winning in Iraq, only ending the war.

WE WON ALREADY!!!!!!! The war against the Iraqi government was over in weeks. Their army was defeated their government deposed annd their army disbanded. What we are fighting now is not a war but an insurgency.A large part of it is a civil war and it is complex. It is nothing close to Vietnam ,we lost 58,000 soldiers not counting the wounded in Vietnam,
compared to 3,800 in his one plus a million other differences
between them. I do admit it's frustrating though.

Because we insist on believing that these are 'people' who really want to lead themselves and make decisions.
You know, not like in the good ol' USA where locals know who their city politicians are, and take part in city council meetings, and actually being a part of self-government....
Okay, as bad as we are about it, they're ten times worse. Each faction wants to choose its own dictator and will kill each other off until there is only one dictator. And then they'll complain all over again.
You know, it DOES sound a bit like the U.S.

There is no win......In WWII a win was when we crossed the Rhine into Germany and captured Berlin, we were fighting the German Army and as soon as the government fell to Allied forces the Army surrendered....In Iraq we are fighting against an idealology, there is no one to to surrender, The war in Europe was a political war.

Not only can we not win in Iraq, we wont. Not in my life time or my kids life time and possibly even my grandkids life time.
The biggest thing for Skippy up in the white house right now is making Iraq a democracy. Well I am not saying that some of them dont want a democracy, but they most dont want ALL of a democracy. They are like wild animals running loose seriously. It doesnt matter how calm you can make them, they are still wild animals and they will turn on you when you do something they dont like or consider a threat. You can not make people change if they dont want change and they dont want things to change. Can you seriously blame them? Change is scary for anyone! This is all they have known for their whole lives...
I think that this has already became too much like Vietnam. No one supports the war, the media is only giving half truths and our men and women are coming home to people calling them baby killers because of what the media portrays ALL soliders to be and its not true. Most troops, if given a choice, wouldnt want to go, but unfortunatly that is their job and alot of them, that is the only thing they have known (the military)... God bless our troops!

First, you cant compare Iraq to world war II,That was an all out war to the finish.Second, the media would like you to think this is like Vietnam(but it isnt)even though the congress and senate are trying to use the same tactics to help us get defeated there. Its different nowthough since watergate, most citezens actually keep track of our representatives, and their plunders...aka Harry Ried,Nancy Polosi,Murtha, etc. They (democrats)defunded the Vietnam war outright.they are afraid to now and will do everything but that(attacks on an ally,Turkey for what they call genocide froma hundred years ago)Thats a major supply route for the troops.Third, they arent reporting that deaths have been going down every month, but their(the media) are sure to report any bad thing in a hurry.Fourthm,we still havent got anywhere near the death tolls of either of those wars.
Fifth, the surge is working and we are winning,I suggest you dig deeper than the regular media
