We need new interior doors. I found that you can purchase them "prehung". What are the benefits to purchasing "prehung" verses just the door panel? What is your preference?

I just replaced 7 doors using pre-hung. It's much faster unless you are really good with a router. You have to match up the space you have cut out for the hinges on the door perfectly with the hinges on the door frame. I've done it both ways and find it much, much easier to replace the entire door frame. As long as you make sure the frame is square and plumb before you hang it you'll be fine.

If you buy a prehung door you have to change all the door casing molding.I always recommend a prehung door,it's just faster to install. If you buy a slab door you have to plane it and router out for the hinges and they never fit square in the old door frame.

Prehung is MUCH easier. Homes settle, doorways aren't square. You have to put up door, take it down, plane it, adjust it, repeatedly. Easier with prehung. So if your woodwork, doorframe is nothing special, go with prehung, particularly if you've never hung doors before.

If its an existing door frame just the door is fine. If its a newly framed door opening a prehung is the way to go.

Pre-hung means you have to replace the entire door frame. Using just the panel you only have to match up the hinges. I'd rather just line up the hinges than take a crowbar to the old frame and two hours later maybe have it in straight.
