Will D-light or other edit do better or same result has speedlight sb 400 for d40?

correct usage of flash and lighting is always better than butchering images in photoshop

No. There's no substitute for having light when you need it. Software can bring some limited details back, but it's not a cure-all or substitute for adequate and proper lighting.

I agree with Antoni 100%.
Get it right in the camera or delete it. I toss mine since I use film LOL!
