I mean they are both the most popular people in there sport by a Giagantic margin and niether has done that much winning. Both are a lot more talented than some bum off the street but have they proven themselves to be the best...Nope.
Please do not tell me about all of Jr's Busch stuff, it is so embarassing, kinda like me trying to argue with a Yankees fan about how the Red Sox AAA team won a bunch of championships.

I mean I like him he helps the sport I love in the overall picture, but well more to you old guys, does it alienate you a bit to have some young kid, son of a champ, kid hogging up all the coverage?

I will only partly agree!
Jr. is by far the most overrated driver in the sport!
But Anna K. was a stiff! Jr. has 17 career wins in Cup races!

Ok first off the fact that Jr's actually won 17 races, automatically rules out the Kournikova comparison, she didn't win s*it. Second is there some kind of new math I don't know about where May 2006 is suddenly 2 yrs ago. Look at Jeff Burton, no offense to the Burton fans (you know who you are), I'm just making a point here, but he didn't win a race from 2002-2005, he goes to Childress, and BAM he's winning races again. It's amazing how much a change of scenery can help a driver. As for the engine thing, going from 2 engine related DNF's to 7 in 2 seasons is not a driver issue, it's an issue with the engine builder. People really need to look stuff up before they spout sh*t off. Then again this is like trying to explain to a Red Sox fan that 8 World series wins in 90 yrs does not constitute a great franchise.
King 71 she probably mean Mark Martin, and as I seem to recall I've corrected many a non-Jr fan, on some stuff in this forum, I actually look stuff up before I post it.

Grouch 21 I agree with you 100% on the Sports Center and publicity stuff. The Tv Network and especially the race announcers are Jr. Fanatics--Heres how is goes --Ok race fans Jr. is moving to the front he just passed Elliot Sadler for 20th position. OR Dont look now but Jr. Is making his way to the front after his mishap on Pit road he just passed Bill Elliot for 25th position. Why not announce like this for other drivers???? Announcers are supposed to be unbiased!!!! Many-Many driver never get a word spoke about them or 10 seconds worth of visual coverage in the entire race. Plus all the TV Commercials of Jr. Constantly during the race. The Announcers even interview him when he finishes out of the top 10 just like they do the top 5 finishers---Why not do this for Newman or Kennseth and others? The Main problem is this The TV Networks and Announcers cater to the squeakiest wheel. Plus they cant do simple MATH!!! It is easy math== Stewart fans+Johnson fans+ Gordon fans+Harvick fans+ Kennseth fans+ The Bush Brothers fans+ The rest of the drivers fans=FAR FAR FAR MORE FANS THAN THE JR. NATION. Simple Fact!!!!

Jr.'s a good driver, as he's won 17 times in the series. I don't think he's as good as many hope that he is though...... The next couple of years will be the true test of his talent. Many of his fans are hanging their hat on the fact that it's poor equipment that's causing Jr. to perform poorly. I'm not going to say I agree or disagree..... I just have a feeling that there's more to it than DEI equipment.
As far as comparing him to Anna....that's ridiculous. Dale Jr. has a lot of talent. Anna is just nice to look at.

Great analogy! and I would tend to agree with it.
I do not remember hearing that Jr. had bad cars when DEI was winning all those plate races. Excuses Excuses. When Jr. does poorly at HMS (he willbe the 4th best driver there), what will the Jr. fans say then? Oh wait, the same thing they said about Terry Labonte, "HMS gives all the good stuff to Gordon" I know we will hear that again in the future. Face it, Jr. is just plain not as good as his dad and will never be as good as Jeff Gordon.

The elder Earnhardt won 67 races and 6 Cups after the age of 33.
Junior is just getting started.
Boy it's really going to suck for some people when they see their guys get waxed by a guy who should be in go-carts.
And why shouldn't Junior fans put some stock in better equipment for him? Look what it's done for Gordon.
Gordon's contract with HMS runs through 2010 and after that season he will have been racing full-time for 18 years.
After chasing Junior for 3 years and at about 40 years of age with a 4-year old daughter, he will probably retire. He will have been racing for nearly 35 years. Junior who has currently been racing all of 17 years will be in his "Earnhardt" prime years.

Hey Amanda, you really should do some research before sticking your foot in your mouth. Typical Dale Jr. fan, has no idea what their talking about. Bill Elliott won his Winston Cup CHAMPIONSHIP, in 1988, and finished runner-up in 1985, 1987, and 1992.

I think you're right. Look at Bill Elliott, he won the Most Popular Driver award quite a few times but never won any championships.

Excellent comparison. Two people who were extremely popular in ther respective sports, yet did nothing in that sport to earn it.
