Yes, through prayer, not to complicated or spooky... I just talk to God as I would speak to any person. . I pray in my mind or out loud, I stay still sometimes, sometimes sit, sometimes pace. I ask questions, I express things, I ask for things. The communication back can be in many forms. Sometimes just seeing what I ask for happen. Sometimes just having a revelation, or suddenly having information. That type of direct communication is not auditory or visual.... but the best way I've heard it described is being hit with an arrow, and that arrow was information. you suddenly "have" information or an answer when before you didn't before. Or it's just in the form of suddenly understanding something you didn't... it's like God "opens" your mind. It's also in what you asked for happening.
How often: every day. Sometimes more than once a day.
First communication was prayer as a child. First time I knew there was a relationship was when I noticed that answers were coming that could not be coincidental. That was about 15 years ago. Most recent: today, praying about having a good visit with friends.
Why do I communicate with God? I committed my self to following Christ and to prayer. I dont' know why others don't want to. Some don't want to be subject to God. I love God and want to operated according to His will.

I talk to Her at any given moment. She shows me that I have the answers to all my questions but that I might not see them at that moment. She is constantly showing me the wonder of life. There at times I see her in the people around me. Then there are times I can smell God in my presence. Meditating and praying, centering and being balanced all these things help in communing with Him. God is there always, just because you aren't able to see, hear, or understand doesn't mean She isn't there.

Knowing God as a personal savior was my first step to truly communicating with Him. The very first momentous one was like being alone and hearing a gentle, but loud, rush of wind (no, I wasn't outside) and I could feel the Holy Spirit enter my soul. Every day with prayer I feel His presence and when something is bothering me and I turn it over to Him, a peace comes over me and rational thoughts enter me with my answer and I KNOW it is God. Jesus said, "No man cometh unto the Father but by me" so Jesus is who I pray to. It truly is opening your heart to Him, admitting you are a sinner and ask His cleansing in your life, and believing on Him and try to sin no more...He will answer you. It is hard to describe so you understand because with each Christian it is a very personal experience. Atheists will use what we say to mock, because they do not understand.

God likes people to worship and sing to Him. The best way to worship God is to pray for stuff you want. Asking for a new car, a new house, or for your ex-boyfriend to die are completely acceptable things to pray for. God hears all prayers and does His best to fulfill all of them; a bit like Santa at Christmas, just all year around, every day all day.
Because God is pure love, anyone, even a good person, who doesn't believe in Him in exactly the right way is forced into eternal suffering in Hell. So far in history, only five people have gotten their theology exactly correct. However, evil, selfish people can believe in God and get into Heaven because God loves them. God loves everybody equally, He even loves the people He has condemned to burn forever.
For more in-depth discussion of this subject, consult the Bible, which is the definitive authority on all things religious, as it was written by God Himself and directly given to us mere humans to treasure forever. Every word of it is literally true, without exception. He even translated the Bible for everybody in later years.
Note carefully that no human can ever know God's will. Except the Pope, because he has a mind-bogglingly cool hat. And a stick

The only way today God communicates with someone is by His Last and Final Revelation that is The Holy Quran - no other way.....if someone's saying that he/she getting msg from God or God communicating with him/her, he/she is lying...they r the losers - they will burn in hell !
We should worship Him like Our Prophets (pbut) did that is best for us :)
Peace

Hearing voices and seeing visions, experiencing tastes and odors and heat or cold that others can't verify, are hallmark signs of psychosis. These false experiences can also be seen in some cases of schizophrenia.
If you believe you are experiencing any of the above, make an appointment to see a psychiatrist. It is very, very likely that you are in need of help.

By praying, reading God's Word and allowing Him to speak and reveal whatever, or by just speaking to Him, in general. God is able.

What a great (albeit loaded) question.
What would be a really interesting exercise would be to take all the theist's answers to this and replace the word 'god' with 'santa' and then laugh yourself silly.
(oops, would this be considered mocking?)
