Thanks to you for asking this question!! I'm a single mum of one and one on the way, work to support my son but one wage just doesn't cover things these days!! Tax credits are a much needed incentive to work because without them I would be financially better off on benefits.
People slate us for being a single mum and needing a bit of help, why not slate the men who run off and leave us as single mums, it's not like we planned to be this way!

Don't forget single Dads! I look after my two girls full time and go to work. You just remember young lady that you have nothing to be ashamed of. You are not sponging off the state and you are entitled to those tax credits. Hold your head up high, be proud of yourself. Whatever you achieve is because of you and you only. You're right you could take the easy route and not work at all, but there's no self respect in that. Don't let the bast***s grind you down.

Don't worry about what anybody else says, keep doing what you are doing. Single mums, and it's mostly single mums, will always be slated by those too ignorant to understand . If your not being told your irresponsible for getting pregnant, your told your sponging off the state, if your not sponging off the state you get preferential treatment. You cannot please anyone except yourself, and you can't take on board everything that is said about single parents. Carry yourself with dignity, raise your children well, and create the best life you can for your children.

People slate people for various reasons. Most of these reasons are ridiculous.
Some people slate Victoria Beckham, some slate Katie Price, some slate single mums.
Its a slating type of world.

A lot of people don't realize, or remember, how hard parenting is. And then to work, and raise the kids without help. Tax credits are there for a reason and should be used. That's why they are there. Don't listen to the haters. They either don't understand or they are jealous you are able to do so well under such tough conditions.

Because they are ignorant. Bet they are the same people though who claim Disabled Living Allowance yet can run a mile in 4 minutes. They are so holier than thou. You deserve to get Tax Credits - you are working and contributing to society and making a better life for your family.

anyone can claim tax credits not just people with kids, as long as they are over 25 and working 39hrs or more a week, they don't have to have kids.
If people moan at you say, 'well at least I have the sense to claim back some of the tax on my earnings'
'It's your money pick it up' (tax credits advert)

Some people are idiots. I'm married and we both work, but without tax credits I wouldn't be able to afford to send my little one to child care and I would have no choice but to stay at home and claim income support. Would people rather I did that? I don't think so.
