It depends on the situation.
If you mean beating your head with a hammer I should think you'd get used to NOT beating your head with a hammer rather quickly.
If you mean a spouse leaving you, it would depend on how long you'd been together and why he left you … e.g. his death, your infidelity, etc..
If you meant stopping smoking, they say about three weeks.
I found it fairly easy after puffing on them for over 40 years.
I stopped last New Year's Day - last night I had a dream where I smoked.
I felt a bit stupid for succumbing.
If you mean your house burned down ...
If you mean you lost your job ...
If you mean you lost the use/control of your body ...
Why is this question in R&S?
Shouldn’t it be in the Social Science > Psychology section … unless of course if the new situation is becoming an atheist after being a fundie all your life.
LOLz
Anyway, they all have different time frames ... but they all depend on maturity and the ability to deal with stuff.

I try to be open to new situations, though I don't always succeed. If its something like a change in what I am doing at work its usually a couple of weeks. If its moving to a new city, I would say 6 months or so.

Because I was a child who spent a lot of time in hospitals I've had to learn how to adapt to different situations pretty quickly. Because of the change of situations I've learned how to become comfortable in most of the situations that I find my self although of course I'm most comfortable in my own house.

depends on the actual situation. Sometimes I spend days or weeks getting used to it...(like actually having true friends) or sometimes it just clicks in my mind (new position at work) etc...
I spend more time actually thinking of the new situation than actually getting used to it. It's the concept that drives me nuts. That can run through my head for hours and hours....thinking of all the good and bad...but then poof, it clicks...it's strange...it's really hard to explain.

I can usually adjust easily to new situations if it's for the better. If the situation is for the worse depending on the complexity and severity of the situation it can take me minutes to months.

It depends on the situation i am in but there is only two solid answers to that and no further explanation needed. It can be quick or it can last a lifetime.

If it's an improvement I really wanted, not long at all. If it's something I don't like and don't want.. it can take so very long.
Right now, I dont' like a new situation so I will do a little complaining and sulk for a long time. : ) I can't help it! I don't like changes very much! LOL

It is called adaptability Moon. Most people say it depends. Situations are constantly changing, giving people a chance to switch from what I term complete boredom; I look forward to change, I think it keeps us alert, on our toes. People in general don't like to change anything in their lives and I for one say it is all good. I look on it as a challenge. To me, being consistent can be a ho hummer. My motto is, there is always a better way.
