soul or spirit remaning to experience punishment, when Jesus is warns us in Luke 12:4-5:

" And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do. But I will forewarn you whom shall ye fear: Fear him, which after he hath killed hath the power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him" ??

Gen 3:19 This means that death will now come to human kind, whereas there had been the possibility of living forever without death. God had stated here that they would certainly die.

Human beings are dust but they are not mere dust. Likewise, human beings do not become mere dust when they die

It is a shame the JW's cannot see thru these shams. They contradict the Bible. There are many OT and NT references to life after death. But these dear, deceived folks pick and choose.......and to their own detriment. May the Lord have mercy on them, and bring many to the truths of the Bible, and not to the lies and distortions of the WT Society.

Some readers may be unaware that "The Watchtower" is a religious magazine written by Jehovah's Witnesses.

It is true that Jehovah's Witnesses believe the bible to teach that humans do not have a "soul" or "spirit" which can exist independently of a body. However, Jehovah's Witnesses do not believe that a dead person has "vanished without a trace". The bible teaches that the dead are in God's memory, and he has committed to resurrecting them.

(Matthew 22:29-32) Jesus said to them: “You are mistaken, because you know neither the Scriptures nor the power of God... As regards the resurrection of the dead, did you not read what was spoken to you by God, saying, ‘I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob’? He is the God, not of the dead, but of the living.”

Ironically, faithful men of old considered "hell" or "Sheol" to be temporary places of rest, a metaphorical "sleep" from which they expected to be awakened in God's due time. Note that the faithful man Job prayed for the rest of Sheol (or "hell", the grave) until the time when Jehovah would "remember" him during the resurrection.

(Job 14:12-15) Man also has to lie down [in death] and does not get up. ...O that in Sheol you would conceal me, That you would keep me secret until your anger turns back [that is, after Armageddon], That you would set a time limit for me and remember me! If an able-bodied man dies can he live again? All the days of my compulsory service I shall wait [asleep in death], Until my relief comes. You will call, and I myself shall answer you. For the work of your hands [that is, the resurrection work,] you will have a yearning.

The bible quite plainly notes that (after Armageddon), nearly everyone who has ever died will be resurrected to healthy bodies in a restored paradise earth.

(Acts 24:15) There is going to be a resurrection of both the righteous and the unrighteous.

(John 5:28-29) The hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out

Of course, at Armageddon Jesus immediately imprisons Satan in "the abyss" so that these resurrected ones can learn God's will and purposes without Satanic influence. Sadly, some will side with Satan during a final test at the end of Christ's thousand year reign of peace.

(Revelation 20:2-3,7-10) And [Jesus] seized the dragon, the original serpent, who is the Devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. And he hurled him into the abyss and shut it and sealed it over him, that he might not mislead the nations anymore until the thousand years were ended. ...Now as soon as the thousand years have been ended, Satan will be let loose out of his prison, 8 and he will go out to mislead those nations... And they advanced over the breadth of the earth... But fire came down out of heaven and devoured them. And the Devil who was misleading them was hurled into the lake of fire [the second death from which resurrection is impossible]

Any humans who are destroyed then (or who were destroyed earlier at Armageddon) do not suffer the temporary death of "hell" or "Sheol", but the permanent death of "Gehenna" or "the lake of fire". The bible uses these latter terms to describe death from which there is no hope of resurrection. Note that once "hell" has been emptied (when all have been resurrected) and our current concept of "death [with hope]" is fulfilled, then both "death" and "hell" are thrown into "the lake of fire" or "Gehenna". Clearly, "hell" is different from "Gehenna".

(Revelation 20:14) And death and Hades [or "hell"] were hurled into the lake of fire. This means the second death, the lake of fire.

cause Eclessiastes 9:4-6 says so

" For as respects whoever is joined to all the living there exists confidence, because a live dog is better off than a dead lion.
5 For the living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten.
6 Also, their love and their hate and their jealousy have already perished,"

Ezekiel 18:4 "Look! All the souls—to me they belong. As the soul of the father so likewise the soul of the son—to me they belong. The soul that is sinning—it itself will die."

and is not Hell is Gehenna

γεενναν =Gehenna (This is the Greek text)

Read a better translation honey.

What the bible says about the dead. Where are the dead?

Gen. 3:19: “In the sweat of your face you will eat bread until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken. For dust you are and to dust you will return.”

Eccl. 9:10: “All that your hand finds to do, do with your very power, for there is no work nor devising nor knowledge nor wisdom in Sheol [“the grave,” KJ, Kx; “the world of the dead,” TEV], the place to which you are going.”

What is the condition of the dead?

Eccl. 9:5: “The living are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead, they are conscious of nothing at all.”

Ps. 146:4: “His spirit goes out, he goes back to his ground; in that day his thoughts [“thoughts,” KJ, 145:4 in Dy; “all his thinking,” NE; “plans,” RS, NAB] do perish.”

John 11:11-14: “‘Lazarus our friend has gone to rest, but I am journeying there to awaken him from sleep.’ . . . Jesus said to them outspokenly: ‘Lazarus has died.’” (Also Psalm 13:3)
We all have the hope of the resurrection, what God's word says about the dead.

*****************Of what is man composed?

Gen 2:7-Then the Lord [Jehovah] God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being [Heb. soul].

1 Thess 5:23-Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

**************** According to the Bible, does the soul live on after the death of the body?

Gen 35:18-And it came about as her soul was departing (for she died)...

1 Ki 17:21-22-"O Lord [Jehovah] my God, I pray thee, let this child's life [Heb. soul] return to him." And the Lord [Jehovah] heard the voice of Elijah, and the life [Heb. soul] of the child returned to him and he revived.

Matt 10:28-"And do not fear those who kill the body, but are unable to kill the soul; but rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell [Gr. gehenna]."

Acts 20:9-10-...fell down from the third floor, and was picked up dead. But Paul went down and fell upon him and after embracing him, he said, "Do not be troubled, for his life [Gr. soul] is in him."

Rev 6:9-11-And when He broke the fifth seal, I saw underneath the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God, and because of the testimony which they had maintained; and they cried out with a loud voice, saying, "How long, O Lord, holy and true, wilt Thou refrain from judging and avenging our blood on those who dwell on the earth?" And there was given to each of them a white robe; and they were told that they should rest for a little while longer, until the number of their fellow servants and their brethren who were to be killed even as they had been, should be completed also.

Rev 20:4-And I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of the testimony of Jesus...and they came to life and reigned with Christ for a thousand years.
