Where is God's name clarified difinitively?

Do Jews and Christians agree?

Is it unspeakable? Why do Jews right "G_d" instead of God?

Is there one answer, to God's name, or many?

Are they titles of God or His name(s)....or is it a title or His name.

Is there an answer that scholars agree on?

BRIAN, FROM MY CHURCH, EMAILED ME THIS ANSWER...

Hope this answers your Question
The real names of God are

Tetragrammaton (YHVH)

. Adonai

. El

. Eloha

. Elohim

. Elohei

. Elohecha

. Eloheichem

. Shaddai

. Tzivaos

. Eheye asher Eheye

According to the Jews all these names must be treated with proper respect
-- whether they are of the seven root names, or just derivatives.

...IS HE RIGHT???

He's not after Yahoo points (although I think he'd be in the running IMHO), so you still have a chance for 10 points if you add this discussion.

Can you comment further on Brian's info???

I created this web site on the names of our Lord Jesus Christ, years ago, for my church...

http://pilecki.homestead.com/JesusNames.html

...but I still want to know THE name of our God! Can you help me? Is it knowable?

Is there not ONE DEFINITIVE NAME (since there was no one to name the great "I Am!") OF THE "LIVING GOD"???

We have seen seven names of God, given in the Scriptures. Each of the names point us to the Lord Jesus Christ our Savior.

Jehovah-Jireh: The Lord will Provide

(Gen. 22:13-14).

Jehovah-Rapha: The Lord will Heal

(Ex 15:26).

Jehovah-Nissi: The Lord our Banner

(Ex. 17:8-15).

Jehovah-Shalom: The Lord our Peace

(Jud. 6:22-24).

Jehovah-Ra-ah: The Lord my Shepherd

(Ps. 23:1).

Jehovah-Tsidkenu: The Lord my Righteousness

(Jer. 23:6).

Jehovah-Shammah: The Lord is There

(Ezek. 48:35).

(from my web page, linked above)
Still, what is THE name, if ther is one?

Yes God has many names- in the greek/hebrew text.
And I call him Lord! King of Kings! Adonai! God! Lion and the Lamb! Jehovah, El Shaddai.....Lord of Lords.
But above all JESUS CHRIST! For He is the same, yesterday, today and forever! As Hebrews says:
Hebrews 13:8
Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

יהוה (The Artist Formerly Known as God)
At one time, God had gotten tired of being called God. So He invented a new name, ﷲ. When ﷲ had decided on that name, He/She/It dumped the new name in the worst possible location on Earth. That's right.... Arabia. The people didn't know what to think of such a scribbling as ﷲ, so they gave up and called God "Allah" instead. The people in the rest of the world were just as confused, and so by popular request God dropped the name ﷲ and went back to being God. Oh well. Ironically, this was a thousand years after the יהוה debacle, in which God burped out another name nobody understood, and in which case the victims declared the name holy and started worshiping the name as an idol and refusing to announce (denounce, pronounce, antinounce, whatever) it

Matthew 1:23-25 (King James Version)

23Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
24Then Joseph being raised from sleep did as the angel of the Lord had bidden him, and took unto him his wife:
25And knew her not till she had brought forth her firstborn son: and he called his name JESUS.

Jesus Christ

Philippians 2:9
Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:

"Grace" is the name "above" every other name named,
such as God, G-d, Jehovah, Yahweh, Allah, LORD, etc.

Throne of "grace": Hebrews 4:16, where
only "mercy" is obtain-able, and where
only "help" is available, and "in time".

Understanding is as a crown of grace glory: Proverbs 4;
Which crowns thy head when understanding embraced.

So, with all thy getting of wisdom, get it: understanding;
Which is to say hallowed be thy (heavenly)name: Grace.

The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.

Name? This does not make sense to me....how would god have a name...names are a human invention. God is the energy in which all comes from....not a living being. We are all a part of god..as we are all a part of the one and same cosmic energy. You have to see that all is really one and the 'self' is only illusion

By revealing his name God at the same time reveals his faithfulness which is from everlasting to everlasting, valid for the past ("I am the God of your father"), as for the future ("I will be with you"). God, who reveals his name as "I AM", reveals himself as the God who is always there, present to his people in order to save them Finally, in Jesus the name of the Holy God is revealed and given to us, in the flesh, as Savior, revealed by what he is, by his word, and by his sacrifice. This is the heart of his priestly prayer: "Holy Father . . . for their sake I consecrate myself, that they also may be consecrated in truth." Because he "sanctifies" his own name, Jesus reveals to us the name of the Father. At the end of Christ's Passover, the Father gives him the name that is above all names: "Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father."
