Don’t Worry About Opinions
1 John 3:13
13Do not be surprised and wonder, brethren, that the world detests and pursues you with hatred.
So many times in life we find ourselves making bad decisions because we are concerned with the opinions of other people. What will they say if I do this or what will they think of me if I say this and all the while we are fighting a battle that can’t be won. There are some people that will never like you and never appreciate you no matter how hard you try. No matter what you do and no matter how you attempt to cater to their unreachable expectations of you. We spend so much time ignoring God and listening to people. People don’t promote you so it’s impossible for them to demote you unless you allow them to control you. We all want to be accepted and we all want to be loved, but we must know that our worth is not derived from what others say, For some people you’ll never be tall enough, short enough, skinny enough, large enough, pretty enough and so on. The moment you try to change one thing, they’ll complain about another. The Bible teaches us not to be surprised by that or even wonder about it – just focus on what God says about you. You are beautiful to God, you are a treasure to God, you are precious to Him and that’s all that matters.

I figured out all by myself that other peoples opinion of me are important, but NOT to the detriment of my well being.

Atheist.

EDIT
Glad so many Theists don't seem to care, hard to believe it based on their behavior here though. But then again it does explain how they can say out loud some of the things they believe with a straight face. The humans with pet dino's one, always gets me going.

Well, your follow up statement to your question makes it less a question and more of a soapbox, but anyway....
1) most people, NO. I don't care what most people think about me.
2) For certain individuals, I do care (at least to some extent).
My wife
My mother (my father is no longer alive)
My sister
Others whose opinion I believe matters (priest, etc)

When I do care about someone's opinion of me, it is usually limited in scope. My family does not share my religion. So I don't particularly care of their opinion of my religion (to some extent).

So the simple answer: a little bit

"Don’t Worry About Opinions" you write as an opening ... does this mean that you do not want folk to comment (think for them selves)?

Doctor Seuss said it lots better than your old book:

"Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind.

I don't need an old book to tell me that.

I am only concerned with my family's opinion of me, and certain close friends.

As long as God loves me and I'm doing my best to please him I really don't care what any one thinks. It took me a long time to realize this.
