On Friday, my 3 y/o started complaining that his mouth hurt. When we looked in his mouth, there is a blister but there is also a whole on the inside of his lip. It does not go all the way thru to the outside. It is at the very bottom of his lip about at the base of the gum line but not in his gum. He could not have bit it due to the place it is in. He never cried when it initially started hurting him. Now, he cries with it all the time. And of course, he has a hard time eating. What would cause this hole and is this something we should get checked out?

It could be a couple of things. If he is a rough and tumble kid he could have fallen and jabbed a tooth into the area. It could also be a canker sore, and either way it hurts like the dickens! Try Orabase-B. It is a topical ointment with some medication to heal and to numb it. DO NOT USE STRAIGHT ORABASE OR AMBESOL, THEY WILL STING EVEN WORSE and have no medication for healing, just numbing.
The worst case scenario is an abscess of some sort and regardless you should see your dentist ASAP.
Sorry he is hurting. A Popsicle or jello may also soothe the area and give him something fun to eat.
Good luck and call your DDS

THIS DEPENDS ON WHAT IS SEEN.
TAKE HIM FOR PROPER CARE TO A PEDIATRIC DENTIST.

Are there any males who could be abusing him?
