Use a dandruff shampoo. Head and Shoulders has all kinds of different types for different types of hair. Selsun Blue is highly medicated. Garnier Fructis also has a dandruff shampoo that smells really nice as opposed to the strong medicated scents in some of the others. Also, make sure you use a conditioner because dandruff occurs from a dry scalp. Make sure you rinse your hair really well because sometimes shampoo left in the hair after washing will cause dry scalp as well.

Dandruff is caused by a fungus on the scalp. The only way to effectively get rid of it is by going to a dermatologist and getting a prescription for a dandruff shampoo to kill the fungus. Nizoral is good, and there are generics just as good, too. Use it as indicated in the litrature that comes with the shampoo. Over the counter dandruff shampoos don't work, and never have.

Head and Shoulders is still the standby. And now they make different formulas for different hair types. I had a hair dresser once tell me it makes your hair fall out, but my grandma has been using it since it came out for dandruff associated with psoriasis and she still has all her hair.

Dandruff can be caused from a fungal infection but not in every case.
