My maids asked me if they'll need to stand or kneel during the entire ceremony. I'm a recent convert and have never actually attended a Catholic wedding--so I have no idea!

Hi and congratulations!

Are you having a full Mass or just a wedding ceremony?

If you are having a full Mass then at the part where kneeling is done....it's up to them if they want to kneel or stay seated. The priest will give you instructions at the rehearsal.

If you are having a simple ceremony, then they will remain seated.

At the Catholic weddings, it is only the bride and groom near the altar, everyone else is seated in the first row. At the time of your actual vows....your maid of honor AND best man will join you near the altar, but the rest of the bridesmaids and groomsmen will remain seated. Sorry....I know that's not "ordinary," but that's how it's done in the Catholic Church.

Good luck and I hope you have a beautiful wedding!

It really depends on how the church is set up and also wether you are having a Mass or just a ceremony.

I was recently in my friends wedding ane we (bridesmaids and maid of honor) were seated in the front row, but there was NO kneeler because there was nothing in fron of the pew bench so we did not have to kneel, instead we sat.

IN a ceremony typically you won't have to kneel, in a mass you will only need to kneel if a kneeler is available and if the bridesmaids/MOH feel comfortable doing so. If they are not Catholic, then just sitting would be fine.

Don't stress about it no one is going to be worrying about who is kneeling or not, the focus will be on the ceremony itself!
Good luck!

If there is a Catholic mass then yes. If it's just the ceremony then there will be no kneeling. In a Catholic ceremony the MOH and bridesmaids do not stand up beside the bride but are seated in the first row. There is a kneeler in front of them so they may do so.

I was in a Catholic wedding and they did have us kneel during parts of the ceremony.

It totally depends on the church, but it's been a long time since I've seen anyone in a wedding ceremony kneel.

They'll have to kneel if Mass is said.
