Antibiotics have prevented more deaths than heart surgery or ANY other advance in medicine in the past 100 years. Look at the top four causes of death in 1906. #1 was Tuberculosis - now treatable with antibiotics. #2 was pneumonia and Influenza - treated with either antibiotics or vaccination. Heart disease was #3 back then and cancer was #8 - Why? Because the average life expectancy was 47 years in 1906 and many people did not get old enough to get cancer or heart disease. #4 on the 1906 list was infectious diarrhea - diseases such as typhoid and cholera which can now be cured with antibiotics. Complication of childbirth was number 10 on the list as late as 1918, and many of these deaths
were caused by treatable infections. (Remember that death in childbirth only affects half the population - the women.)
The answer must be antibiotics if # of lives saved is the criteria to judge an advance in medicine.

desktops. they permit us to do spectacular issues. something greater specifically scientific? i'm questioning antibiotics. My pal the Paramedic pupil says emergency drugs - the advances there have stored uncounted lives. Why is DNA so necessary? through fact DNA are the guidelines of life - as quickly as we are able to understand and manage DNA, we are able to administration all factors of life. era. Orion
