What type of answer are you looking for when you ask that?

Depends on the girl. Back when I was with guys, I asked if my boyfriends thought other girls were pretty, because I was looking for a girlfriend that he might also dig.
But I think a lot of times, the girl just wants to hear the guy say, "not as pretty as you," or "not really..." or some other answer that affirms that the guy prefers the appearance of his girlfriend over some other random girl. In that sense, it is probably of the same motivation as the question, "do you think I look fat?"

Usually when a girl asks that question, its a no win situation. Sorry! Sometimes we just want to know how attactive you find someone else, so we can compare ourselves to that person. If you say yes, depending on who the person is, your probably going to get yourself in trouble if your girl is somewhat insecure. Then she may become jealous. If you say no, then she may think your standards are really high (depending on who shes asking about that is). Usually the best way to answer that is to look stunned for a second, then irritated, and then clearly state that you think she's beautiful, pretty (some sort of compliment) and it should divert her attention if it sounds sincere enough!

Well, I've never asked that. But I guess it's when girls are fishing for compliments. They expect the guy to not answer honestly and to say "You're way prettier". I know a few girls who might ask that, but I wouldn't say that most would.

A lot of girls ask that because they feel insecure. They want to be the most beautiful woman in the world to their boyfriend. In asking that question they want to hear that no one compares to them and they want to be reaffirmed.

Maybe she feels insecure because she thinks the other girl is prettier? She probably wants you to say no.

She just wants to know if you think she is pretty....if you find her attractive. She is looking for conformation on her looks. It could be that she is a little insecure about her looks too.

i never ask that lol i just wait until im told it haha she's feeling insecure so u shuld just tell her she's pretty b4 she can ask and maybe add a "ur gorgeous, thats y ur mine" lol
