No the 40GB PS3 wont be backwards compatible.

Right now I think that Sony is just trying to get people to buy a Playstation 3 for the PS3 games. If the 40GB PS3 had backwards compatibility it probably would sell for $50 dollars to $100 dollars more because it would cost more to produce.

If you already have a PS2, then backwards compatibility wont be an issue.

No its not.
Well if you have a ps2 library then you have a ps2 if you dont have a ps2 library then you have no games to be worried about.
