all the bottons are gone

There is no botton for all the programs,
so it is not spyware

ALL I WANT TO KNOW IS HOW TO FIX THE ADD REMOVE PROGRAM

You don't say if it is a specific programme your grandson wants to remove.
Just to remind you to get to Add or Remove you need to click on START then on CONTROL PANEL and when the list comes up then on ADD OR REMOVE.
The programme takes a while to load so don't be impatient. It will be especially slow if the UPDATES box is ticked.
If you are unable to REMOVE a certain programme, can I recommend you download a free programme called C Cleaner from Piriform Ltd. and one of their utilities is an uninstall programmes.

If the program is spyware, there will not be any remove button. Spyware coders do not make it so the malware can be easily removed.
In this case, he will need to use his anti-spyware app.

Each program has a remoove icon if you need to delete the program. If you need to install you can do it manualy by opening the CD like you would a hard drive, find the install icon and click on it.
