I am planning to visit Hastings for a day trip, what ideas could people provide me when I arrive at the area's main train station? This would include museums, galleries, attractions and so on.

don't bother going. It's the same as most UK resorts, 'tatty'

Hasting has its tacky side (called the seafront) - all arcades and fairground rides, but the beach is rather nice - I was there on Good Friday this year. However we found a lovely shopping street - full of antique shops and a shop selling American collectable souveniers, like Betty Boop and classic cars. But the best bit for us was going on a 'things we've seen in Foyle's War' hunt and that was quite fun! We found his house and wandered around the old part of the town and quite frankly I had a lovely day. There's also a funicular railway near the seafront and lots of things to look at in the old town. Best advice - head to a tourist information office and raid it for maps and leaflets. You should have a good day.

I live in Sussex, and Hastings is one place I no longer visit. It is full of old people, the eating places are second-rate, there is nothing worth seeing because municipal people have taken away everything of historical interest, there is a high rate of crime, and the word 'culture' is unheard of. Go somewhere else. Brighton, Lewes, anywhere.

Go to Battle Abbey, tour the pubs and sit on the beach or swim in the sea.
