that is like asking if they thought that the Seniors section would be full of old people.
but I have to agree with Darth, that they never expected it to inspire the use of the report button to the extent that it has.

I think they completely underestimated the population of moral, intelligent, reflective atheists in the US population who found a place here to represent themselves honestly instead of hiding from the Christian Taliban in their public lives.
The Christians (and let's be honest, the contoversy here is ONLY about the Christians getting peeved by atheists) thought this would be a place where they could come and just ask every half an hour "Isn't the LORD great!!!!?", get a bunch of answers like "You said it sister!!!" before giving best answer to their friend. Instead it turns out to be a place where they not only encounter atheists in untold numbers, but atheists who know more about their religion than they do. Must be shocking.
And no, I'm not an American atheist.

I completely settle for that folk have quite a few ideals. that does no longer advise those quite a few ideals have any advantage, of course. I appreciate and shield all human beings's *astonishing* to have self belief despite they desire to -- however the ideals themselves, those are honest pastime for criticism, debate, communicate, or maybe ridicule while they're needless to say incorrect as shown by potential of info. If somebody takes offense at an straightforward fact, there is not any longer something i will do approximately it. I try very difficult to no longer get into own assaults or call calling, yet i would be unable to help it one bit if somebody is "indignant" by potential of an straightforward fact I make. Peace.

Bad liberal, I think you are absolutely right. (I am an American atheist). All the talk we see here about separating the boards out for individual religions would lead to exactly that kind of dynamic. Whats the point of that? Controversy keeps things alive!

They probably had a pretty good idea, since religion can be very controversial in real life, but they probably didn't expect all the intolerance and trolling that goes on.

I doubt if anyone could have envisaged the way this section has turned out, controversy maybe but the lack of human respect never.

Are you serious? Religion is a controversy everywhere. Have you never been to a bar, a barber shop or a beauty salon?

Probably. Religion has always been a very hot topic. There is finally a forum where it can be openly challenged.
