I think the speaker is very intelligent and knowledgable.
Why do I have to believe in a God to be happy, why not just get real and be happy with what I have in this world?
I think Carl Sagan was a great example of somebody who flourished and didn't have to believe in God.
How can I get rid of this tendency to reach for a God to be happy?
Is there any happy atheist's out there that can give me some light?

I am an atheist (of a sort (i believe in the universal mind and trying to explain what the universal mind is takes a while but it is not really a god it's just us))
Just choose to be happy. that's it. It's your choice because it is your reality. So smoke, drink eat or do whatever you do. you might enjoy this movie What The Bleep Do We Know you can find it on youtube. But yeah just choose to be happy.

I’m a Christian, but someone who also thinks you should explore if you don’t want to believe in God. No one’s holding a gun to your head to become a Christian, right? So why don’t you explore? Why do you need an atheist or anyone else to confirm that you could be happy without God? But do remember that God cares for you even if you don’t care for Him, and also that you’ll be the one who left Him, not the other way around.

You have to be happy with yourself and who you are. Including your beliefs what ever they may be. Carl Sagan was a great man with a great mind. I miss him, without even knowing him.

i think if you dont want too..then dont. explore and see what else there is. i think that to be happy you dont need to believe in god. its what you make of it. what you surround yourself with ..the people you are with..and how you make your life..is what determines your happiness. everything we do is ourself. and with the help of family and friends. just because one day someone says..i believe in god and all that. doesnt mean they will be happy. it really depends on you. so i think that you should explore. and i know alot of atheists that are happy and living their life to the fullest.
