i have three tattoos (for now)
the first tattoo in 2006 that i got is a koi. i'm asian so i decided to go with that theme. i had wanted one for probably three years or more. they symbolize good luck. they struggle up the waterfall of life and once they reach the top (heaven) they turn into a dragon. lotus flowers also are considered to be lucky and they also struggle up from the bottom to surface in the water and are so beautiful once they emerge.
after getting that completed i got a sea turtle to make a full back piece. to me they represent wisdom and grace.
i got a skull on the top of my right foot, not to be morbid or "trendy" but because it conveys the raw emotion that i felt when my coach in high school was murdered. and also when a friend in college died in a car wreck. i never got to really say goodbye to either of those people. so the skull is a memorial to them and it is to remind me that death is just around the corner and i should make every minute count.
my newest tattoo is on top of my left foot. it is in honor of my family heritage. my mom was born in korea but never knew her birth mother because of... racism basically. so i got a takeout box with traditional korean art on and around it. and i got a fortune cookie because i love them so much. this tattoo means the world to me because it is a part of me, my mother and my grandmother whom i have never met.
i enjoy well done tattoos, those who are artful and have meaning to the bearer. not ones that are gotten to be cool or sexy or hot.
i think the surge in the popularity of tattoos is a double edged sword. on one hand it is becoming more acceptable for mainstream normal everyday people to have them but on the other hand there are so many shops who do horrible tattoos and help to promote the trashy stereotype that people have.
myself and my friends and family who have tattoos are all smart, educated people who have good jobs that range from: fireman, counselor with a master's degree, a librarian, doctor and lawyer. all types of people have tattoos but i prefer when they have good ones.

1 flower w/tribal,
2 stars,
1 butterfly w/tribal,
1 elephant w/ a crane.
Views: I think that they tell the world some personal views on life, tell a story, expressing experiences, artistic creativity (my personal reason for most of them so far).
Adds: Can find them to be a turn on, can be addictive, but on the negative side of it: some people look down on you, hard to find a job at times ( I personally tell them where they can stick their judgements). Sadly, some tattoos are done in trends are regretted in the following years.
Good Luck on your essay!

The majority of them are part of a lower leg sleeve with an Alice in Wonderland Theme. Each character represents a major part of my life.
Views on tattoos: Love them, I know that they aren't for everyone, but they are for me, and I wish people could just respect me for it.
Despite what people think, I am not trashy, I am not seeking attention with my body art, I regret none of my tattoos, I don't care what they will look like when I am older, and surprise surprise -- I actually have a great paying job in a corporate environment.

The latest fashion is tattoo clothing, no, not the kind you wear and take off to wash, but the kind that is inked on you and you don't ever take it off again. Its great at the beach, or in the National forest service, even on the days that you can go nude down the street on different events from bicycling etc.
For a guy, you could have a thong or swim suite, myself I had a pair of spandex black shorts tatted on. A few girls have had string bikini and thongs tatted on while another has blue jean short shorts and a tube top. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TattooClothing

6, so far
most of them represent where i was at spiritually at that time in my life. I have a wrist bracelet, a witchy woman, Joan jett, butterfly woman, Celtic Gothic cross and my 2 grand children's animal totems ( a turtle and hummingbird) Next is my dragon and then my animal totems.
I love tats that represent something special for a person Each tat tells a story and its a great way to get to know someone.
I have had 4 different artists work on me. I have traditional tat styles and tribal tats, color and black ink.

I won't give you my real name....just call me Red Frog. I'm 25 and have one big tattoo on my back of a naked blue haired fairy riding a unicorn. I think tattoos are a great expression of one's self. And that people with tattoos should not be judged.

How many tattoos: ummm..18 i think.
What are they of: (There's a lot!)
-20-25 stars on each foot
-small lizard on my ankle
-colorful tribal design on my right leg
-"your name" on my ***
-black rose on my hip
-huge fairy wings on my back
-black tribal design starting on my hip, going onto my side, and ending on my back by my shoulderblade
-"love" in japanese with my dad's OID number underneath it
-2 small purple stars on my ribcage
-2 nautical stars on my chest (ones black and blue, the other is purple and black)
-Japanese style dragon on my left upper arm
-flames on my left lower arm
-"Hate" on my left wrist
-"Love" on my right wrist
-3 little dots called party dots on my right hand
Views on tattoos: I love them, obviously. I think they are a great form of art that will last your entire life. I believe my tattoos are the one thing I have that NO ONE can take away from me. No one can tell me to "take it out" like they try to tell me for my piercings. No one can tell me to change them, as people do for clothing. I love it. However, they seem addicting - I love getting new ink! I've been getting inked since I was 17 (with parental consent) and I eventually plan on getting full sleeves on both arms.
Anything else: I have regretted one of my tattoos, but thankfully it was a small one and that is how I got my dragon on my arm..that's a cover up of writing and I love it. Good luck on your essay!
