Christian perfection should be our goal as we make progress out of our addictions.

GOD bless

Yes, it is a progressing state. Some are able to overcome addictions instantly, others are not. NO Christian will ever meet perfection while on earth, it isn't possible. God is teaching you a lesson and you grow in the Spirit through sanctification. Every aspect of your born again (born in the spirit / receiving the Holy Spirit) life, God is teaching you something and growing you to be ready for perfection when you meet him. For those that do not overcome addiction right away, it could be a process of growing your faith and dependence on God. This doesn't mean that you should not be trying, but don't take it as you failed either.

I believe all Christians have a journey which they travel. Most have an addiction of some kind. It could be pride or past sins, things that hinder our walk. Everyone is going at their own pace. We all are striving for the goal so none of us has a right to belittle someone that is not as far along as we are. Addictions can be overcome with God's help and become a source of understanding when ministering to others. What satan means for evil, God can use for good. Phillipians 3:14 Blessings!

It is biblical that if you really , really try to beat addiction that God considers it perfect.. The battle between heaven and hell is for the mind. Not what you can overcome. If you have an addiction and can't beat it I implore you to say the Rosary. Mary has given 13 promises to those that will say the Rosary devoutly. The third promise is that saying the Rosary will destroy vice. NOT just a leg up in the battle against addiction, it says that saying the Rosary will DESTROY VICE.
This is not just my opinion. It actually happened to me . I tried many Alcoholics Anonymous places to no avail. Then I tried saying the Rosary. I have not had a drink in 4 yrs. I can sit in bar all day long and not have the SLIGHTEST urge to have a drink. This goes for drugs also. Try it , you have nothing to lose.

Progressive changes Proverbs 4:18. Spiritual knowledge is progressive. To remain in the light, we must continue to manifest humility and meekness.
“The path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly established.”—PROVERBS 4:18.

WHO can better describe the effect that the rising sun has on the darkness of the night than the very Source of light, Jehovah God? (Psalm 36:9) ‘When the morning light takes hold on the ends of the earth,’ God says, ‘the earth transforms itself like clay under a seal, and things take their station as in clothing.’ (Job 38:12-14) With increasing light from the sun, earth’s features take shape and become clearer, just as soft clay undergoes a transformation upon receiving an imprint from an emblem on a seal.
Jehovah is also the Source of spiritual light. (Psalm 43:3) While the world remains in dense darkness, the true God continues to shed light upon his people. With what result? The Bible answers: “The path of the righteous ones is like the bright light that is getting lighter and lighter until the day is firmly established.” (Proverbs 4:18) Increasing light from Jehovah continues to illuminate the path of his people. It refines them organizationally, doctrinally, and morally.

Genuine Christians don't live a lifestyle of sin.'' The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God." Gal 5:19-21

"Not that I have already obtained all this or have already been made perfect....but one thing I do: forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me." - Philippians 3

If you're asking if it's "progress" if someone uses cocaine only once a day instead of twice, I dunno. I'm not God.
