What are the law and best places for selling art in Montreal?

I'm a photographer and I'd like to sell my art. I have two questions: 1. are there laws/regulations for setting up a box/display with prints, in the street in Montreal? Do i have to have a permit of some sort?
2. where are the best places to set up that kind of thing? (which streets, corners, neighborhoods)

Wouldn't it be easier - and faster - to just contact the local authorities? You'll probably need some sort of permit and a vendor's license.
