Most cross country dualies will average from 26 to 30 pounds for "good" bikes. Your cheapie walmart styles are around 35 to 40 pounds believe it or not! That 5 pounds is a huge difference when it comes to pedaling (plus, those bikes usually have components that don't work well but that's a different subject). Trailbikes and downhill/freeride bikes weigh a lot more. Trailbikes in the 5" to 6" travel range are usually about 30 to 35 pounds. An extremely "lightweight" downhill bike will be about 38 pounds. Most are from 42 to 50 pounds.....they're heavy because nearly every part on them is built to take abuse and not fail.

There are some uber-light dualies on the market but they run in the megabux price range. Contrary to popular belief, carbon frames on mountain bikes aren't a great deal lighter than a good quality aluminum frame.....it's enough to matter to a competitive racer with money to burn, but the difference is so small that most people shun carbon (and aluminum is more durable anyway if you crash or have a lot of rocks on your trails).

Compare all this to a good xc hardtail which will weigh around 20 to 24 pounds.....you'll feel like you're on a zippy rocket!

This is a good question, but it is hard to give an easy answer to. You see, there are lots of different types of full suspension bikes. Some bikes are optimized for cross country racing, others are optimized for downhill racing, others are designed for doing jumps, others are designed for a variety of uses. In general, the weight of the bike will be determined by the length of suspension travel the bike is designed for and how beefy it is built. A cross country racer will usually have 3-4 inches of travel and be built quite lightly. At the other end, bike designed for big jumps may have 8 or more inches of travel and be capable of withstanding a direct hit from a small nuclear weapon. (Or, so.)

A high quality, cross country racers may weight in the low 20lb range. A high quality, general purpose, all-mountain type bike may weight in the mid 20lb range. Downhill racers and jumpers probably start in the 30+ lb range. A cheap bike is probably, on average, going to weight 8-10 lbs more than a high quality machine.

Weight weanies, with unlimited budgets, can trim much more weight off their bikes.

Hope this gives you an idea.

Depending what you want your ride for. If you spend lot's of money, a XC full suspension might be in the 22-28 lbs, an all mouontain bike from 28 to 34 lbls, a freeride in the 30's, and a downhill will likely be 40lbs.

department store bike usually exceed 30lbs which is heavy for a squishy. a good DS bike will be 25-29lbs. i custom built my 07 specialized epic expert and it just tips the scales at 27.75lbs which feels pretty fast on the trails especially while climbing.
really expensive bikes, for example the specialized epic S-works (carbon frame, ooooo) is about 24lbs. its quite an impressive ride.

well, most full suspension mtb's are expensive and pretty light. i'd say the avarage is about 30lbs. a cheap full suspention is the trek y26. however, cheap full suspensions are really bad. i rode the y26 and i hated it! you can buy a much better hardtail for about the same price. full suspension bikes are really expensive. most cost about $1,000-$6000 depending on quality.
