I was wondering how old dogs are when they normally drop their tesicles and if they don't how long would you wait to get them neutered?

Typically the testicles drop anywhere from a few months old to 6 months, however, some can take as long as 9 months, and some may never descend!

If a dog has one (or none) descended testicle at 6 months we give the owner the option of waiting until 9 months before neutering to see if the other testicle descends. If one or both haven't dropped by 9 months, the chances of them descending there after is pretty slim to none.

So, your vet will have to go in and search (abdominal sx)! We have done 4 cryptorchid surgeries in the last several months. Usually it is not common, but it does happen.

P.S. You cannot locate the testicles just after birth. They take several weeks to months to descend.

Neuter at 6 months regardless of whether the testicles descend or not. They should descend after a few months, but in some dogs, this may never happen. Either way, they still can breed, and they can still have behavioral problems, which is why you want to do the neuter anyways.

It varies... my pup was only about 10 weeks when his dropped. It can take longer, but they start neutering dogs at about 8 weeks, so most dogs drop pretty young. You can wait up to 6 months, but if they haven't dropped by then, the vet might have to retrieve them.

Don't neuter until around five months or a bit more. Your vet can remove any undescended testes then.

I just gave away a hairless-mix 9wk old that hadn't dropped. Usually all ours have come down by that time. I've never seen one wait until after that in my litters, but apparently some do.

Males are usually neutered at about 6 months, but my boy was older than that. I don't recall when they drop, though, sorry.
