Atheism has never been central in any political idealism. It has been peripheral in Marxism, but there are many religious Communists. Communism/Marxism did lead to many deaths as put into practice in the Soviet Union, China, North Korea, Cambodia, Cuba, and East Germany.

Communism was responsible for the death of millions of people, though atheism was not the cause. Communism made the state into a religion of sort, in the sense that it is an ideology that cannot be questioned. Anything that stops people from asking questions can be used to control them. "Faith" is just one of many ways, which is what made it an appealing tool in ancient governments. It's no wonder that Thomas Jefferson said that the "priest is the enemy of liberty," but so is the dictator masquerading under a good cause. Political propaganda is just as dangerous as religious fanaticism. The scary thing about Islamic fundamentalism is that it claims god supports the killing of non-Muslims, and nobody wants to question a religion with that kind of power and authority over the lives of its believers.
As an atheist, I support secular, democratic governments and our market based economy.

Of course not.
People always bring up Hitler, Stalin and Mao.
Well Hitler was catholic, stalin was religious about communism and doesn't really represent the ideas of atheism - ok, people will say there are none besides not believing in god but his blind faith in a political ideology was just as damaging, and the same could be said for Mao.
Putting all that aside, people get killed in a holy war because God wants it, god wants one side to win over the other etc - how could anyone ever be killed over atheism? I don't believe in god so I'm going to kill someone? It doesn't make much sense, does it?

It is the religions, all of which have divided the humanity all through the history of mankind and mainly responsible for most of the wars fought in the history, killing hundreds of millions of people! Under the orders of Pope, even the emperors and kings were beheaded in the past!
Even today, it is the religious fundamentalism has turned into religious extremism is threatening the world by terror by a worldwide network and they kill hundreds of innocent people everyday!
On the contrary, never an atheist have killed anyone for their belief and trust in God! But hundreds of Atheists were killed in history, by the order of Church of Christians and the Mosque of Islam!

Those killed by atheist communists were killed in the name of tyranny. People were killed in communist nations for a lot of different reasons.
Some were communists who disagreed with those in power and were killed because of that. Some were anti-communists opposed the government and were killed for that. Some were simply in the way or inconvenient and were killed for that. These are political disagreements that people were being killed over, not murder in the name of atheism.

Umm...no it hasn't. Political ideologies (with no particular attitude to religion) and religion itself have caused more deaths then atheism. By quite a long way.

No - religion hold the record.
But if we get rid of fundies in every religion, then that is not anything to fear in the future. Right now the christian fundies are cooking up something in a grand scale.

Are homosexuals responsible for all the AIDS deaths? Religion killing people doesn't make religion wrong. Stalin was atheist and he killed lots of people. People kill people that's what we do. If we don't have a reason we will make one up.
