Oswestry in shropshire. A town where there is absolutely nothing to do, it's full of card shops, takeaways and second hand shops. Almost half of the shops in the town centre are derelict, the only bookshop (apart from the crap wh smiths) is closing down and the pubs are full of people handing their giro in to the bar staff. You never hear birds sing in this craphole. Makes royston vasey look cheerful. visit at your peril.

All the time. I have worked for several railroads in the past, and still work as an Engineer now. There were many slower speed branch lines I worked where we could stop the train at small town garage sales or a cafe for lunch (if it was a light day). When ever I went to a different railroad, I always found a place to live in a small town and then commuted to what ever city the rail terminal was located. I have met and still see and communicate with many wonderful people. Now I work as a "Boomer Engineer" which means I go to various railroads and locations around the Mid-West to work temporarily as a fill-in Engineer. I stay in one location anywhere from 2 weeks to 2 years at a time. I am in eastern Iowa right now, and am scheduled to work a railroad that covers Montana and North Dakota at the end of this month. That'll last just 2 or 3 weeks. And I will find a motel to live in, in some small town. (Too difficult to rent for such a short time.) There's talk of Washington State after that (and out of the Mid-West for once). I'm some what of a photographer and always keep a camera with me. I take pictures from the trains, the life in the small towns where I've lived, and also my day long explorations of back-roads America on a day off. If you wish, you can e-mail me through my avatar and I'll give you the details to see my photos on FaceBook. They're mostly about small town America in Minnesota, North Dakota, Iowa, and Wisconsin.

Brighton, half council estate, half industrial estate and covered with grime.
Yes, it has a Royal Pavilion but that's the only pleasant thing I could find there.
