Maybe there is a cultural clash between fundamentalist states that self organize around a belief that there is only one way of ornamenting a model of self and world with myth that is good and secular states that self organize around freedom of speech, thought and religious expression. Maybe some ideological authorities within fundamentalists states consider the minds of the many of our global culture to be the property of a good one in Heaven; and consider programming broadcast by secular states through mass communications media to be doing the work of an evil one cast down to and ruling over Earth. Maybe ideological authorities within fundamentalist states believe secular states that broadcast programming through mass communication media to people are guilty of corrupting minds that are the property of a good one in Heaven at war with an evil one cast down to and ruling over Earth. Maybe some ideological authorities within fundamentalists states equate the act of corrupting minds with an act of violence done against the property of a good one in Heaven and as such consider programming broadcast by secular states through mass communications media to be a form of terrorism. Maybe within fundamentalists states there is an effort to censor or even ban programming broadcast by secular states through mass communications media. Maybe some ideological authorities use the sacred scrolls that their particular aggressive ideological tradition is founded upon like spiritual blackmail to threaten the life and or after life of any body who does not submit to their authority and to extort tithes and offerings from communities of faithful believers in exchange for a lifelong indoctrination in a standard of conduct proclaimed by these same ideological authorities to be the will of a good one in Heaven at war with an evil one cast down to and ruling over Earth. Maybe some ideological authorities within some fundamentalist states motivate some of those they have enslaved with spiritual blackmail to retaliate as terrorists with acts of violence against people and property of secular states. Maybe this conflict could escalate into war where in each side accuses the other of terrorism. Out of this war on terror comes a central moral question: Will states treat the minds of many of our global culture as free or as property of a mythical good one in Heaven at war with an evil one cast down to and ruling over Earth?

That would be fundamentalist christians or moslems. The believe their scripture *is* the *literal* word of god, therefore it is beyond questioning and to be taken as the ultimate source of morality, guidance, and, unfortunately scientific information. The danger lies in the fact they (fundamentalists on both sides) are, by their nature impossible to reason with and unwilling to accept ohters with beliefs other than their own. Do you know what ultimately led to revolution in Russia?
The lack of mechanism for change in the political system. The lack of such mechanism (as it was the case with the French revolution) has usually catastrophic and violent results.
The danger lies in the fact that fundamentalists exert considerable influence on the government and thus the laws which affect not just them, (a minority) but all the other citizens of the country. Fundamentalists in th US are now working to bring on Armaggedon in the Middle East and thus fullfil the prophecy in the bible, talking about dangerous.
They affect government spending, witness *faith based initiatives*, blocking of US payments to the uN organizations which advocate birth control in poor countries, blocking (for a long time) the sale of RU486 in the US, and even attempting to block the cervical cancer vaccine for young girls, as it, in their eyes, will promote promiscuity, blocking stem cell research (as it destroys life, what they do not know is a difference between a zygote and an embryo, but it does not matter to them). Moslem fundamentalists pushed through a sharia law in may countris, which almost lead to stoning to death of a woman who was raped, since she was merried it was argued it was adultery, not rape. They conduct routine stonings in Iran and believe (literally) an eye for an eye is the only accptable justice. They advocate war with infidels and are hostile to any meaningful discussion with the nonbelievers...
Yes, they are very dangerous...
In the US, the acclaimed "Silent Majority" is neither.

Abbreviation of fundamentalist.
Christian and Muslim fundamentalists are very dangerous because of their firm belief that the bible (or koran) is a complete and accurate work of god and is 'inerrant'. These are the kind of people who refuse to accept that anything in the bible is metaphorical or symbolic. If it says the world was made in 7 days, then that's what they believe. If it says you should stone someone to death for doing such and such, then they accept that, too. In practice, all but the worst Islamic fundamentalists living under Shariah law are inconsistent and in practice will NOT kill their own children for leaving the religion or sass-mouth.
It's not that dangerous christians are called fundies, but a lot of fundies are dangerous christians. The Yorkshire ripper heard the voice of Jesus telling him to kill people so he was an exceedingly dangerous christian - but he wasn't a fundamentalist.
The kind of Christian who wants to see homosexuality outlawed, creationism taught instead of evolution in biology class and abortion doctors executed is always a fundamentalist.

out of the mouth of a Fundy (Edge) ..."Fundies is short for fundamentalists. We believe the Bible is the inerrant Word of God. That everything in it is true. We believe Jesus is the only way to God. We refuse to condone sin or other religions to make man happy. We prefer to please God. In short fundies are true Christians."
and you can insert any religion and religious text where he puts the words "Christian" and "Bible" and insert any deity in the "Jesus" slot.
what he fails to say is why folks like him are dangerous. in the extreme Fundies will seek to enforce their beliefs, morals and the outdated laws of their religious dogmas on others, try to impede and/or cancel out freedoms even of those outside their religious context. they will use threats, coercion, money, politics, deceit, forced conversion and violence if they feel they must because for a Fundy the means always justifies their holy ends.
history is filled with torture, butchery and genocide committed in the name of man's assorted gods.

Edge is right.
Fudies is a short name for Fundamentalist. Our authority to do works comes from God and our doctrine from God's word, the Bible. We do not worship the book rather we worship the author of the book who is the same being that created the universe and everything in it.
That book speaks of a relationship with God because we love him, since he first loved us. And it is our love for him that wants us to plesae God in all our ways that includes our heart, soul, body, and mind. We want to follow him in all ways. And this is why our ways are misunderstood to think it is just us. It is not us. It is God who is Holy and sinless in all his ways.
This way of life is not extremeism. In fact if you were to go back 100 years ago or 500 or 1,000 years ago this way of life was not considered extremist or evil. Instead the moral and spirtual climate of man has darkened as we enter the final stages of man's rule on earth. And it is this light that is harsh to the carnal man who is still a slave to sin. This is why they must call us extremeist.
But from our love for God it is what causes us to do good works, and say good words. But God lives inside imperfect human beigns. And we battle like everyone else to live the way He would want us to live. It is just that the sinful man or unbeliver is not part of this war. Only when you are born again do you realize this.
There are other extremists that are evil and isnpired by the devil to do evil. Yes even the devil knows how to quote scriputure. So it s not surprising that he will use a man mandde reilgion and use it to corrupt people in order to do his work. And the devil's work is to kill human beings; nor find the truth about God. Or to want man to seek God's face. This is the war that Christian fundamentalist must fight that work of the enemy also.
I know I said alot. But I hope what I said will open your eyes or mind to what it means and the difference between a Christian fundamentalist and the other kind. We are not alike at all. It's like passing judging on an entire race by the atocious actions of one man. And that is wrong.
