Different cats like being petted in different places. If you get a cat, just start petting and she'll let you know what she does and does not tolerate.
A lot of cats hate their tummy being touched, but I've seen others who will roll on their backs so people who will pet their tummy. I've seen cats LOVE their faces being rubbed, and I've seen others who hate it. It really all depends on the cat.
USUALLY the face, head, chin, and back are some of the more common favorites among cats.

The head and chin, as others have said, but also scratching the back at the base of the tail. All the cats I have had enjoy this. My longhair loves being brushed ALL over, except the belly, too. He runs up to me when I get out the brushes, asking for "the treatment"!! Brushing is sort of like petting...

It depends but my cat usually likes to be pet under his chin and near his ears. He also liked when I rub his belly, but some cats HATE that. A lot of cats like being pet all the way too, like from their head to their tale. I guess it just depends on the kitty

My cats love when I pet them on the head, behind the ears, on their belly and under the chin. Some cats love when owners pet them on the belly, but some don't, so be careful.

Generally, cats like having their heads and chins scratched, since they cannot really reach those places very sufficiently. Scratching different parts of the body can vary from cat to cat, though. My old main coon cat loved his back scratch (he was old and had arthritis), my calico liked the base of her tail rubbed and my new Bengal kitten adores having his tummy playfully petted (he's a strange kitty ^^). Really all I can say is to try petting her in different places and observe which spots she enjoys the most. Hope I helped. =)

my cat's like to be scratched behind the ears or under the chin first then they suddenly drop lying on the ground and start purring then I can pet it on the back or the belly. And I can still scratch it behind the ears or under the chin. Sometimes I get bored and stop petting my cat and then she will follow me stroking herself on my leg. That's how I know if my cat's love me.

My cats always love it when I scratch their chins. Cats can clean every part of their body but their chins. My cats also like to have their belly's rubbed. The top of their heads is also nice.

base of ears & on the cheeks or just below. my retarded, feral-acting cat of 15 years will always stop growling at & biting us when we give him little rub sessions there. As soon as we deter & go a long stroke down his back, he *whips* his head around & attacks the hand petting him! (he's really weird).
