Like children, I personally never think it's a good idea to leave a dog unattended in a car for any length of time. Your dog would probably be okay temp wise with the AC on, but also consider all the other things that may happen....he may trigger the door locks (someone could help themselves to your car,) he could unroll or roll up the windows with his head/paw in it, he could chew things up, etc.

If you have to run into a store or something, have one person stay in the car with the dog. Also, you can check the phone book in your area for places that do dog day care. It usually isn't more than $10 to board him for just 6-8 hours.

No.

No.

No.

Now that it's your dog you need to be rational. It is insane to think that you have to be with that dog all the time. Was he taken from his Mom and litter too early? What is that about? What happens if you and your husband HAVE TO leave him alone at home?

The dog needs to learn to be comfortable and secure on his own. There will come a time when you can't be with him and if he hasn't learned to be alone then you'll have a panicked dog on your hands.

After you've done the work required for him to establish his self-confidence, then you can go out, leave him alone, and not worry about leaving him alone in a car in the Georgia heat (a/c or not.)

*If I see a dog left in a car, I leave a note, plus info from the Humane Society that tells you what can happen to a dog that's left in a car (theft, brain damage, death, etc.)
Yeah. I'm one of "those" people.

**research crate training. If you do it properly you'll never have to worry about things like this.

No never leave your dog unattended in a running car. Would you leave a child in a running car? Why does the dog have to be with you always? I'm sure if the dog is left at home alone crated for a short period of time he/she would be ok.

Put on a fur coat, roll up the windows and sit next to your dog for "just a few minutes" and then ask yourself that question again.
Keep in mind they can't sweat.

If you leave the car running and you have an extra key, it might be OK. Unless he can push down the windows, then you're in big trouble!
What will you do with him when you go to work or school or a dr's appt? You're going to have to have a better solution.
