Sweetie, don't worry about it. He isn't coming back. Worry about your math skills. If "the guy" was born in 1953, he'd be 54 this year, not 60.

If you're looking for a return, it was supposed to happen way back in the First Century. Just a bit overdue, no?

ADDENDUM

How kind of the posters immediately above and below to post the pertinent verses. Of course, they have superimposed their own flawed interpretations to "this generation". They, as do all end times fans, have temporal interpretation problems.

This is a prophecy that deals with the fig tree and a lot of verses. In Luke chapter 21:28-30, the Lord gives a parable about a fig tree blooming and redemption drawing nigh. There are more verses in the Bible about Isreal being like a fig tree, so if Isreal was not a nation for over 2500 years and suddenly becomes one it makes you start thinking and putting certian verses together, remember Jesus how he said this generation shall not pass away till all things be fulfilled, if it is the generation when the fig tree blooms and Isreal is the fig tree which became a country around 1950 then the generation born that year could see the end if a generation is 70 years. I have heard it explained many times and I have been a Christian for a long time and in my studies I do believe it. The people who were born in that time period, if they live to the average age of 70 or better, they will I believe see rapture of the Church. Too many other things are lining up also, the chip or national id is here now, one man can control the whole world, To many countries have nukes now, and surely since Isreal had not been a country since the days of Daniel that God will never let them fall away again. I hope this has helped you, there is not enough room to much else,. alot of verses into play here, keep praying, and believe in Jesus.

It was 1948 when Israel became a nation in a day, not 1953.
THIS is the generation Jesus was talking about. The one who has seen this happen.
So, before this generation passes away, He will return.
The day or the hour no one knows, but Jesus did give us things to look for. This was one of them. Another is how the world is turning so wicked, another is the vast technology of the world, another is the changing weather, another is signs in the heavens (stars, planets, etc.) another is false teachers, another is false Christs, another is the signing of the peace treaty with Israel and the Antichrist, another is the rebuilding of the Temple. So, there are signs we are to watch for, but we must always be ready. many of these things have happened, and are happening now. Jesus said "KEEP WATCH AND PRAY, SO YOU WILL BE READY" AMEN?

I hear that Prophecy what not when Israel became a Nation, but when Jerusalem belonged to Israel, which was 1967, after the Six Day War. You can read about it in Matthew 24. Don't worry, Jesus is coming back soon! After Israel signs a seven year peace treaty. Remember, the Anti Christ, must come first, but keep looking up, for our redemption draweth nigh.

Israel became a Nation in 1948 ! But not all the original Land of Israel was liberated, Jerusalem was still under the control of mohammedans until 1967. There is truth in what your friend said, but when that Generation begins is the question.

Matthew 24 - Jesus is answering questions from His disciples. The question the disciples asked Jesus about was not just the "end of the world". They had been asking Him about the temple - Jesus had said the temple would be destroyed completely, and that was so startling to them they naturally asked, "When?!" (It happened less that 40 years later, in 66 AD). They also wanted to know when He would "come back", and what signs to expect to know it was soon. Jesus was answering all three of these questions...and towards the end of the chapter (vs 34), He comments, "this generation will not pass away until all these things take place". But He also said, "the gospel will be preached to the whole world before the end comes" (vs 14).

I have heard people debate about what this whole chapter means, and setting times and dates for what Jesus talked about is a matter of interpretation.

Don't let the things people tell you about prophecy scare or intimidate you. It's hard to understand, with so many people telling you completely opposite things, and with hundreds of years gone by from the time those words were said, AND with major cultural differences between then and now. Ask God to help you understand and have peace about it.

And also look at how many times in the same chapter Jesus said, "NO one knows the time of His return! Verse 36. Verse 42. (Mt 25:13) he really emphasises that no one knows, but that we should always be ready.

So try to live your life in a loving way, following Jesus words about loving others and believing in and watching for His return, but don't be anxious about it. He will come back when the time is right. It could be anyday - it could be hundreds or thousands of years.

I know this was long, and I hope it didn't sound "preachy". I just didn't see anyone seriously try to address your concerns (have those kids and God bless). And I have spent tons of time reading over and trying to understand this stuff, so I hope I was able to help a little!

Turn to Mark 13 - this chapter speaks about the end of the 2nd earth age that we live in today.
paraphrase
Mark 13:28 - Christ is speaking and telling us to LEARN the parable of the fig tree that when her branch is yet tender and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is near.
(The fig tree represents Israel - Israel was founded again in 1948.)

Mark 13:29 When ye see these things come to pass, (Israel becomes a nation again)

Mark 13:30 Jesus speaking, this generation shall not pass, till all these thing be done,
(the generation born after 1948 will not completely die as the Lord will return before it does, but not in a rapture, at the 2nd coming of Christ after the anti-christ appears on earth)

Mark 13:31 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words shall not
(this earth and heaven age will pass, as did the first earth age aka dinosaurs, a 3rd earth and heaven age will follow - II Peter 3 to read this)

A generation in bible times refers to a 40, 70, or 120 year period. Obviously 40 (1988) has passed. Only God knows when this will happen, however, we are to be watchmen and know the season.

The generation Christ is speaking of is the generation after the fig tree is planted again, in order words, after Israel was established again, this happened in 1948.

He did not mean the generation that he lived in on earth as some have implied.
He will return in the lifetime of people who were born after 1948.

Also, I believe you are supposed to live your life having children if you so desire, not in fear, but in hope and teach your children these things. What will happen will happen and if you believe you and your family will be protected by God's love.

Relax, God the Son Jesus Christ was telling everybody that he was going to return in their own lifetime, but they all died and he NEVER delivered the goods... Good thing that he was telling us the truth! Imagine if he were joking?

Matthew 16:28 - I tell you the truth, some who are standing here will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom."

The Jews drop out of Christianity when Jesus didn't deliver the goods. According to the astrologers from the East, Jesus was supposed to be the "Newborn King of the Jews." The very last question the Jews made to Jesus was about delivering the goods! (Acts 1:6-7), but now Jesus is telling them that nobody, but nobody including himself knows when God will send him back!

Mark 13:32 (NIV) (Jesus said) No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

That tells you how lousy communications in Heaven are! The day of the second coming will come as a total surprise even to God the Son Jesus Christ!

He also told Poncius Pilate that his Kingdom was not of this world! So much for the "Newborn King of the Jews!" Pontius Pilate had to put a sign on top of the cross to remind everybody about the recanted "Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews". The Jews wised up right away and dropped Jesus very quickly... For Christians it may take a little longer... Each people have its own degree of gullibility... No fault of the Jews. They wanted to make him king by force, but Jesus chickened out!

John 6:15 (NIV) Jesus, knowing that they intended to come and make him king by force, withdrew again to a mountain by himself.

This is why Jesus told you not to believe in the words of men, you remember what the traditions of men has said to you, but because you hear their words, you can no longer hear the Words of God, the Father.

The passage you seek is Revelation chapter 13 and Matthew chapter 24. and Daniel chapters 8 and 12.

Matthew 24:33 So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near--at the doors! 34 Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place. (Also in Mark 13:30 and Luke 21:32)

Here are the things Jesus said to look for:
Matthew 24:4-34 -- And Jesus answered and said to them: "Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake. And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. But he who endures to the end shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. "Therefore when you see the 'abomination of desolation,' spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place" (whoever reads, let him understand), then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let him who is on the housetop not go down to take anything out of his house. And let him who is in the field not go back to get his clothes. But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! And pray that your flight may not be in winter or on the Sabbath. For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be. And unless those days were shortened, no flesh would be saved; but for the elect's sake those days will be shortened. Then if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or 'There!' do not believe it. For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. See, I have told you beforehand. Therefore if they say to you, 'Look, He is in the desert!' do not go out; or 'Look, He is in the inner rooms!' do not believe it. For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For wherever the carcass is, there the eagles will be gathered together. "Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken. Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

"Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near--at the doors! Assuredly, I say to you, this generation will by no means pass away till all these things take place.
