Shaving the cat will not make it sick. We shave long haired matted cats at our hospital all the time. It's no different than a dog getting a hair cut. Most groomers can do it for you just fine, but if the cat is afraid or aggressive it can be done with sedation at the vets. It's no big deal and will definitely help your cat be more comfortable and clean.

How much of the cat do you want to shave? Veterinarians do it every time they have to do surgery. But who told you to shave the cat and why? Shaved cats would go sit in the window looking for warmth and get a sunburn. You can't put human sunscreen on a cat without making it sick!
And if you feel you must get your cat shaved, please take it to a groomer! They know what they're doing.
Maybe you need a Sphinx cat; they have no hair, just whiskers.

Yes. I had a long haired cat that I shaved. I was fighting a flea infestation (which luckily I got rid of!), so I shaved him down to help with fleas as well as shedding. He didn't mind the clippers at all and didn't seem to care that his hair was missing. Of course, I just clipped him really short, not bald. He sure was ugly until his hair grew out, though! lol

My baby was 20 lbs and it was difficult to clean himself. I bought a good shaver and would shave him every month or 2. He would get so happy. He lost his weight and still enjoyed to be shaved. Make sure the shaver is good. Cats have a different type of fur, so you need a good one. I would buy the Andis at Revival Animals online and it was good for 3 or 4 shaves. This winter I wanted to buy Cedrick shirts to keep him warm
Cedrick loved to be brushed and even when he was shaved he enjoyed to be brushed

My cat's hair is really long and he gets miserable in the summer. I didn't shave him because I knew that he would hate the razor sound. I took scissors and cut his hair down drastically. He looked kind of funny for a month but he was happy, more playful and definately a lot cooler. The hair grew back healthier too.

Shaving a cat would be a cruel act by a moron. The person who did it would be sick. How would you like to be skinned alive. Think about it.

Sure but please have a way to keep it warm and protect it from bites and scratches. If this is to get rid of fleas just take it to a vet, they will help you get rid of those, and get the home exterminated.

Probably. But it's a good way to get scratched up really badly too.
