WHY should LEGAL Chinese immigrants be forced to learn Spanish? They already need ENGLISH.
USA needs to stop favoring Spanish as the national language of the USA. More and more Americans cannot get hired because they are not bi-lingual in their own country.
Go to Mexico and see how Bi-lingual they are!! Seirously, the only reason America caters to Spanish speakers is to get their attention and then their cash. Americans don't need the limited few pesos the Mexicans dish out.
In short, the educated Mexicans speak English. So we're only kissing up to the poor uneducated masses from another country by learning Spanish. I mean seirously, our forefathers gotta be rolling in their graves over the prospect of having to convert everything.

I love the uniforms, it has shown dramatic differences in our students confidence and grades. There are arguments that kids need to express themselves and uniforms don't allow that, but school is their job, and what they need to express in school is that they are a student. And if you don't want them to express that, maybe you really don't care about their academic achievements. Uniforms are ugly, they make a 13 year old look like their 12 instead of 17 (like the clothes they prefer), and uniforms are like a constant reminder that you're where you work because they would never where them when they're not working. And that's exactly what makes them so great. As adults, I think most of us forget how difficult it is to be 12 years old. Yesterday, my uniformed students got to wear crazy hair/hat day with their uniforms... and they all did great crazy things. They were so excited at the beginning of the day with the excitement and change that by the end of the day they were almost crying because they were so tired. The excitement of the day was just too much... and that's just from wearing a fuzzy hat and doing math work. The more we can focus students on learning, the more they will be able to learn.

Since when does bi-lingual mean must speak Spanish? It is simply the ability to speak 2 different languages. Since we have so many immigrants from so many different countries bi-lingual what? For who? Korean and Spanish at this school......Chinese and English at that school......Italian and French at that school? Japanese and Russian over there? Most people are already "bi-lingual" they just don't speak Spanish because they learned ENGLISH to move here. Most citizens learned another language picking through a variety of them for their own personal interest or to aid them if they planned to travel to foreign countries or for their profession.
We have had "bi-lingual education" here......English speaking kids don't know Spanish and the Spanish speakers never bothered with English. It doesn't work.
What prey tell is fair or beneficial for the child of a new immigrant who doesn't speak English OR Spanish? How is that pressure and confusion good for them when the whole darn thing boils down to 1 group of people who don't want to learn English or any other language?
If learning English is just so impossible to do.....then you got no business comming here. There are other Spanish speaking countries to go to if that's so important.

We already have classes for students to learn other languages. I think everyone should know English as a primary language for communications. However, I do think that students benefit from learning other languages also; my kid does at least.

I believe it would be good for American children to learn another language if nothing else to broaden their horizons.I also believe our primary language should and always will be English but it does no harm being able to communicate with foreigners.

I think it is important to learn other languages. it will increase the amount of job opportunities. Many of our companies have branches in other countries.
I heard of a teacher in New Jersey that uses iPods to help Spanish speaking students learn english, to integrate them into an english speaking world. We could use the same technology to teach other languages.
My child knows some Spanish, Turkish, and some Russian. She worked at an amusement park and met people from all over the world. She cared enough to ask them to teach her their language, and she still keeps in touch with them, after they went home.

NO.. when they do it for the WRONG reasons.
It's good to teach children a foreign language, just as a supplement, but they can't forget what the main language in the country is.

We have elective courses to teach them now. It should not be a required course. Plus how are we to decide which languages would be required. You cant teach every language in the world.

Let's focus on learning English correctly first. Not only the immigrants don't know English, but neither does half the American population.
