I know this is a book, but please read. I have been feeling so anxious. This has been going on for so long now, but I have to ask because I just don't know what else to do. My heart races for no reason. My hands feel clammy. I think about a thousand things that I have to do. I feel like I can't do things fast enough. I am nervous. I also can't sit still. Like I am always doing something even if it is just fidgeting while on the computer. I hate this feeling. The only meds that I am on are Lexapro and Buspar for anxiety and depression, but I was like this even before I started taking them. I haven't been falling asleep at night too well either. I just so badly want to relax and slow my mind down. I have a hard time focusing and concentrating too. I intend on speaking with my psyciatrist about this, but for now any idea what this is?

Talk about three crappy first answers. I meant book figuratively. It is a long question. Some people do not like that and therefore don't read or answer. Thanks!

I deal with these same things, some days are worse than others, some days I'm able to find a way to calm my anxiety and some days I can't!! It does sound like anxiety to me, I would check with doctor and ask him to change your meds!! You didn't say how long you've been taking those meds, sometimes it takes a little while before they take effect!! Good Luck!! You'll be OK as long as you follow through on trying to fix the problem!!

Forget the labels. You could be given all sorts of labels with anxiety in there somewhere, and others, but this is your individual suffering and medication is not going to cure anything, only possibly help with symptoms (you just have to hope that the help is good enough to outweigh the unwanted effects). There will be some underlying reason(s) why you get into this state, and this will relate to the depression, too. If you are willing and able (i.e. you have enough personal support) to go into the depths of things, psychotherapy is likely to be your best bet. Ask your psychiatrist about this when you see her/him.

Meanwhile - exercise, especially walking briskly, would probably help - I know it's hard when you feel there are a thousand things to be done, but a half hour's good walk first thing every morning and again later in the day would probably enable you to feel just that bit more level, and so able to get things done in a calm way. Some exercise of any sort that really gets you hot and sweaty a few hours before bed is likely to help with sleep, too. Diet's also important - avoid all those things that could make you feel anxious, like coffee, alcohol, etc and as many of the artificial additives as possible. The more you can eat close to nature - i.e. not processed food, but preparing meals from simple, good, raw ingredients - the better. Some people think that reducing meat consumption also helps reduce anxiety, and certainly it's likely to help with sleep (as plant-based food is digested much more quickly).

You need a physical and mental outlet. Run, jog, walk, ride bike, dance to the music on CMT, go to the gym. Write in a journal, type a letter about what is troubling you and then burn it (in a safe way, of course)--just start off by saying my heart is racing and my hands are clammy and see what else comes out. I hope you are not dehydrated. I also hope you are not consuming too much caffeine. Don't nap. Take a multi-vitamin for women and get out and get some sunshine and fresh air.

I get those too....whenever i feel uneasy or i cant concentrate i get the exact same symptoms...now you dont really need pills for this what you need to do is calm your nerves when this happens, get off the computer and go for a walk if its nice outside...do something YOU want to do and if no one wants to go with you do it anyway, do not do anything else first, if you have to and you work, ask for a day off so you can calm yourself....have fun all day long and dont think about anything else.

But however do see your doctor, he may have something else to help you with...Hope i helped you my friend....last time i felt this way i asked my boss if i could go for a calming walk and she said no problem, cuz it will affect your work and if you have a boss he or she will realize that you cant cope at that moment....above all, do something for YOU :-)
good luck :-)

You can take care of the anxiety, the depression, and the racing mind by taking classes in Tai Chi and QiGong. Tai Chi is a more dynamic form of QiGong. In QiGong, you work with the breath, learning to control and slow your breath to a meditative state, even while moving your body into different positions. When you control your breath, you control your mind. You'll become able to slow the racing thoughts and the anxiety. You'll be able to dismiss the depression and focus on things that allow you to learn and grow. You will be able to get yourself off any medication that you are on. I think you'll find less of a need for your psychiatrist too. The meditation will allow you to go inside yourself for the answers.

How long have you been on the meds? These meds take 4 weeks to even begin to do what they are supposed to do. If you have been on them longer then 4 weeks then talk to the doctor who prescribed them. If not, they will probably tell you to wait the 4 weeks then call them. It does sound like anxiety though and you shouldn't be like this on these meds. There are a lot of different anti-anxiety meds out there and it just may take some time to find the right one for you. Good luck to you

Thats typical anxiety - Ihave the exact thing going on.
Talk to your Doc - he might need to change a med.
Also, if you can, find someone to do some talk therapy with - it might help you find ways of dealing with these feelings in a constructive manner.

Yoga helps me - but some days I'm simply too wound up to do it.

i think it would be a good idea for you to get into some kind of yoga, relaxing techiniques, meditation, or self hypnosis. you need to just lay back and clear your mind of all thoughts, i have a racing mind a the best of times too, i know it's impossible to calm down sometimes but when you can lay down in a comfy spot, on your bed or couch, tv on or some calming music. close your eyes, just try hard to think about relaxing every little piece of you starting from your toes. breath deep through your nose and out through your mouth slowly. it does help to refresh your mind to get the oxygen and to distract it from your ongoing thoughts. just really try to just consentrate on yourself, after feeling like your body is totally relaxed imagine yourself floating on a air matress on a calm narrow stream in a beautiful place, warm sun just right so your comfortable and calming smells of fresh fragrences from the flowers and trees and grasses. you can do this in the middle of your day and it should help at bedtime also. or ask your doctor if ther's something you can take to help you sleep, not that you should rely on this, just every second or third night just to garrantee a couple nights of rest a week. you could probably bennifit from massage too, a nice hot bubble bath is good too, try to find a hobby/craft you can enjoy to do with your hands. thinking and worrying doesn't help anything and even worse when it's multiple situations on your mind all the time. try your hardest to only think about one issue at a time, write them down, give each thought it's own 10 minutes. it's impossible to deal with it all at once. make sure you are taking vitamin b, it's good for your nerves. also st. johns wort is good for you, best to talk to your doctor first, it might not be good to mix with your medication. i think it's just an over active mind, i think some people can't process more then one thought at a time, they're lucky in a way. but i think if you could apply your mind to something constructive you could do great things. like running a company and being sure all areas are operating and performing in efficiency. you need to give yourself a break, try to consentrate on you, don't worry about the things you can not change or fix, it's hard.

the ability not to focus and always being axious may be ADHD. Depression is an issue with me also, and Celexa helps me get a better sleep, I have been told I have the ADHD also, and your symptoms are similar to mine. Nov 1st I'll get examined to see if I really do have the ADHD. Please do speak to your doctor. Even though the problem can be pinpointed, still it takes finding the right medicines to really get things in order. They have given me in the past, Haldol, Elavil, Triavil, and a few others. Right now Celexa seems to keep me at ease, and calm and content.
