I think i started shaving my body at around 12-13. It's normal when girls start to grow to want to shave.

It is definitely normal, i don't know what your dad is talking about. It is actually abnormal for a 14 year old NOT to shave. Maybe your dad doesn't want you to shave because he doesn't want you to grow up and he wants to protect you from those "horrible" boys. But yeah. Your dad is wrong. Shaving is definitely the norm.
If there was a 14 year old girl that didn't shave, it would be considered gross.
Ok, ok, I'm going a little overboard. SOME 14 year olds don't shave, and if you're not allowed to or something, don't worry about it. It's not the end of the world. But it really is the norm to shave at 14.

YESSS ewww you should start shaving when your like 12 yr right!!!.
tell your dad this or let him see this page
girls start there period between ages of 11-15 2 years before they get it they sart growing more hair on there legs/arm pits and other places ;]. when this happens it is neccisary for a girl to start shaving. tell your dad it is perfiectly normal to be shaving at this age and it is un normal not to be.
or if thats to akward to say show him this page but believe me most men are SO uncomfortable talking about a girls "hygene needs" that they agree right away with you at the first comment of it

The age really doesn't matter. What matters is your comfort in shaving or not shaving.
Personally, I can't go without shaving my underarms. But my leg hair is very fine and very blonde- so I don't worry about it much except in summer.
It doesn't matter what other people think. It is your body, and it is your choice. At the age of 14, your father needs to understand that you are becoming more and more responsible for your own body. Let him know that while you still love him, you are a young woman who has to learn to make decisions for yourself, and it is your body.
Caring for your own body is your business. After all, he doesn't decide for you what feminine products you can or can't use, does he?
Remember, he is from a different generation- and if he didn't have sisters, he may not know what is the "normal" age for puberty and all its consequences!
Good Luck!

I think it's normal for girls to start to shaving around your age. It's up to you, though. Most teen girls shave their underarms (if you even have hair there.) But the legs are hardly noticeable if you've never shaved before. If you feel like waiting a couple more years, that's totally fine. You'll find that when you start shaving your legs, the hair will start growing back darker, and it will be more noticeable, so you will have to maintain it.

No, there is nothing wrong with you. I lived with my dad when my parents divorced and there were a lot of things that he just didn't understand because he is a man. I think he is afraid of 'why' you are shaving your legs....is it because you are attracted to men and want to have sex?? could bare legs lead to sex?? That is why he is freaking out on you. Just don't have sex right now and wait, like I did until I was out of high school and your dad will be fine with you shaving your legs.
I didn't shave either and I remember being in a long jump competition. I hurt my knee jumping and the cutest boy in the school picked me up to help me off the course. When he sat me down he said 'ewww you have long dark leg hairs, that is gross'. And from then on out I shaved. I was in six grade when that happened, and I still remember it! There is nothing wrong with grooming yourself and keeping up your beauty regime.

All the women in my family have dark hair and we all started shaving in 5th grade. It is embarrassing to have leg hair in a society that really doesn't grade on a curve with an issue like this. I am 55 years old and social issues like this for women are even more demanding now. I let all my daughters (3) start shaving in 5th or 6th grade. I didn't let them use makeup til jr. high so I was not a wimp who caved in to peer pressure, but hairy legs is a whole different issue. So as far as I am concerned, you are right on target. Tell your dad to relax.

I would first talk to your Dad and find out why he thinks it's not normal. Then let him hear your side. Communication is important, especially if he's not letting you do it. I don't remember how old I was when I started shaving. I just remember knowing that I didn't want to be "hairy", and I also thought it was gross. If it makes you comfortable within yourself to shave then go for it. But I'm not your parent, I would talk to them first!

i started when i was 10. and no, i really didnt have that much body hair. I kind of wish i wouldve waited, because once you shave, if you have started going through puberty, or are about to, it WILL start growing like mad. but by age 14 you definitely should be shaving unless you were a late bloomer, etc.

It is different for every girl. I would assume by 14 that you would atleast be shaveing your legs. My girls are not quite there yet, and it's been a few years for me so best of luck explaining all this to your Dad.
