My problem is that I have difficulty putting my thoughts into words. When I listen to people talk, in most cases it feels as though they can just SPEAK, you know, without having to think about HOW they're going to say it, I can only say the simplest of things without having to think about it. Because of this it's impossible for me to have a conversation that sounds completely natural, since I'm always taking a second or two to think before every new idea I'm putting into words. It's really annoying.

It's always better to think before you speak. If by the time you have thought, and the subject changes, keep that idea for the next time and move on with the next subject.

I would certainly prefer to hear something intelligent from someone who thinks first, then the first thing out of someone's mouth that didn't engage brain first!

Sounds like you are experiencing normal anxiety. You can try to use deep breathing and muscle relaxation techniques to reduce the anxiety somewhat. Practice speaking in social situations would probably help more. You tend to add excessive pressure on yourself by being afraid to make mistakes. Hey, no body's perfect, so give yourself a break. People who show the least anxiety when they speak are people who talk a lot and who really don't have many fears about how others may be judging them.

I would encourage you to take speech courses as a way to build confidence. You might also make an extra effort to engage in social situations and give yourself the task of talking more. Good luck to you.

How much do you read? I recommend reading and writing to improve your speaking ability, and writing ability.
Speak distinctly and correctly, and write to learn to put your thoughts into words. Life is great when you know how to turn your thoughts into words, and when you can speak them clearly, write them down, and turn your thoughts into real things that people can take and read and feel.

reading books and watching wholesome movies helped me develope my speech better because i can see them as an example of good speaking.

try to practice everyday and don't "over-think" what you're gonna say, just relax and relate to them your thought.

the best way is to broaden your vocabulary and practice to boost confidence.
