The intentions of this political movement are obvious.
70% of all material that can be flown into Iraq goes through air fields in Turkey.
With the situation between Turkey and the PKK the only thing that is keeping Turkey from invading Iraqi Kurdistan and destabilizing the region is the US/Turkey relationship.
The democrats have chosen now as the time to condemn Turkey for actions that took place in WW1.
This is an obvious effort to further strain relations between the US and Turkey to hamper efforts in Iraq.
People can try the "maybe we shouldn’t condemn the Nazi's either" argument all day and I wont buy it.
Plus genocide on behalf of Turkey is a tenuous argument at best, the deaths took place during a civil war basically and the Turkish government in power now had nothing to do with the actions of the Turkish government in WW1.
This is simply a political slap in the face centered on a democratic political agenda to actually impede US ground forces BY THEIR OWN GOVERNMENT.
It is simply amazing to me that people will even try to argue that the democrats not are attempting to do just that; in that they want to hurt US efforts by this WHILE WE HAVE TROOPS IN THE FIELD.
This was a timed event and has one political objective. That objective is to hamper US efforts in Iraq by straining relations with an ally that is crucial to our successes in Iraq.
As you stated in your question I do not see the democrats starting official congressional declaration for Darfur, Burma, ECT. Instead they are concentrating on Turkey which is a major ally in the Mid-East, a member of NATO, and who has to contend with a terrorist organization that retreats into Iraqi Kurdistan.
The democrats want to strain US/Turkish relations in attempt to deny US logistical support for Iraqi operations, and to get Turkey to conduct military operations in Iraqi Kurdistan to destabilize the region.
Iraqi Kurdistan was one of the major successes of the US Iraq invasion and the democrats would like to sabotage that.
-----------------------------------------------
For Conranger...
So what does that have to do with the current Turkish government? These actions took place in WW1.
Also why now? Why bring this up now? Why not 60 years ago? Why not 5 years ago? Why now?
This is a politically motivated action designed to inflict damage to our logistical operations in Iraq. What is sickening is that it is members of our own government doing it because it falls into their agenda, it does not help US efforts.
It wasnt a civil war? Well..I guess thats a matter of opinion isnt it?
It was an atrocity that took place by a government that no longer exists. This action has been put on the back burner until it became politically convenient for the democrats in office.
To me this is plain as day.

She did it on purpose to further inflame problems over there...It is part of the Dumocrap plan to sabotage anything good happening in the ME. Congress is the biggest roadblock to winning the war to INCLUDE Al Qeada. I say this even though I think Bush has made a mess of the War on Terror. I think our Congress Reid Pelosi and Murtha have done more damage than most of the IED's in Iraq....

There is no GENOCIDE in BURMA it has not even achieved the leval of a CIVIL WAR as of yet.
What is most annoying is that the Armenian Genocide was reported at the time it took place by members of the US Embassy in Syria, photographic evidence was also presented by an American Priest who was doing Missionary work in the area, and yet it was never condemned by anybody.Turkey today refuses to admit the events themselves ever took place, you can be sent to prison for merely implying that it happened, no mention is made in modern Turkish history books of the event.
Who are YOU, the poster of your little rant, to condemn the memories of the victims of a Genocide because time has gone by, does it help salve your conscience, for what the white European settlers of America inflicted upon the Native American Indians??

EDIT For h h;
there was no civil war in the region, the Armenians were rounded up by the Turkish Military and sent on a Death March, there was no food or provisions, including medical supplies, supplied and the majority of the old, women and children starved to death, while under the supposed protection of the Turkish authorities.

AMEN.
Now, I am a democrat, and I'd just like to say I'm sorry there are some big @ss fools in congress right now.
They want to make some noise to improve their ratings, but they pick their battles. They backed off fighting Bush on spending, so they take their tiny gonads to another issue, one they feel they can tackle.
Who the heck cares about what happened? Like you said, it was over a hundred years ago. Darfar and Burma need help NOW. Pelosi seems to have lost her sense of direction. I sincerely hope Californians will wake up and BOOT HER OUT. She's a phoney flake that can't take the pressure.

Fine line Hell. Pelosi, Reid, Clinton (Both of them), Murtha, Edwards, Obama, and others. Organizations like Moveon.org, Daily Kos, New York Times, and others. All of them are traitors and are actively assisting the Terrorists for their own political power.
It has been demonstrated time and time again the Liberals are two-faced and care only for their own political power gain and screw the USA in the process.

I agree. But what's sadder than Pelosi is that we have Americans who don't see anything wrong with what she did. My opinions of Americans as a group has sunk so low since the Iraq war started. I never knew we had a percentage of people this disgusting that would stoop so low to get what they want.
Rosebees posted at the same time that I did. You've restored some of my hope.

The real reason was the Armenian / American lobby. They have never forgotten the 1 million plus who were murdered by the Turks 100 years ago.

The genocide of the Armenians was horrible yes, however, passing the bill will do nothing to help them and make Turkey angry with us. Therefore I agree with you, this bill is pointless and inept.

This same thing was brought up when President Clinton was in office and he asked Congress to drop it and they did so if it wasn't a good move when he was President then it was done now to be vindictive. As far as getting our troops home faster if Turkey shuts of our supply lines then you might see more of them coming home in body bags if they don't have what they need to defend them selves.
