Why is it that they do this? I don't believe the Bible is the absolute truth or the perfect word of God...so why is it used in a discussion about my beliefs (Pagan) when it is irrelevant to me? That is like telling the British Isles to get rid of their queen because we don't have one and backing up the argument with the US Constitution. They could care less what OUR constitution says, they have their own!

By the way...I HAVE READ THE BIBLE!!!

2007-10-21 07:27:17 · update #1

I find it unnerving how many people I have received responses from saying I misunderstand their faith and bash the Bible and God when they clearly took no time to understand me.

I do believe in God and I do believe that there is some value to reading the Bible. It is not "Him" or it that I am bothered by. I am bothered by the fact that so many evangelists don't see that others just don't agree. If you use the Bible to educate others about your faith, wonderful. If you use it to tell me I'm going to hell and need to join you and to teach children to hate homosexuals, I'll tell you not to eat shrimp. Isn't that what the Bible says? Oh look...I have read it. And I used to be staunchly Christian, so I'm pretty sure I get your side too.

Greetings!

"The Bible"

Not ONE Book, but a collection of fragments of Scrolls, Books, and Stories, all put together by Men.

Why do "Christians" wave it under the noses of everybody else, and threaten everlasting Torture to those who do not join them?

Human Nature, and poor decision-making at the Administrative level.

To have a Faith, a Belief System, and a group of others who share your ideas and thoughts, it`s a Wonderful thing.

To threaten to kill everyone who is different? That`s very, very, bad.

Pagans all believe something different and unique to their Family Traditions, they do not have "One Book", but they do have collections of fragments of Scrolls, Books and Stories, all put together by Men.

My King James sits on the same shelf as my Torah, my Quran, my Bhagavad Gita, my Book of Tao, my Sumerian Codice, they are all Honored and well taken-care of, are part of my Family, and will not be burnt or desecrated unless that is my Fate.

They are my Friends and Companions, they help me through good times, and bad.

All that is Holy, is created not by Men, but by that which we Serve.

/!\

That is the word of God, That is not the word of God, Quran is the word of God, Quran is not the word of God.....

God is the creator, so the word of God should be every word that is contributing to the spiritual development and divination of man, to unbiased justice, and to orderly social life.

I do not believe in Jesus because of the bible accounts only, but I have read the references about him in other sources of Jewish, roman, and Greek origins, so I have come to the conviction that he was the promised Messiah and that God is God for all mankind without holding any ethnic group special.

As I came to know God I also came to know men. If a man has no mercy to kill, then he also has no respect for such holy books, and could change things at will in both the OT and the NT.

I do consider there is much truth and some lies in all books, to say that God has protected this or the other book is the same saying he cares more about the books than about putting his wisdom in our hearts.

Actually you're looking at it backwards. Christians believe in God and use the Bible as a tool God gave us to live our lives by. Then you come along and don't believe in God or the bible and start bashing Him and it. If you don't want to believe, then that's your right. But when you start attacking our beliefs, being rude by calling us delusional, brainwashed and such, of course we're going to defend ourselves. Why is that so hard for you to understand?

And if you don't believe in the Bible anyway, why are you even here arguing with us about it in the first place? Obviously we're not going to suddenly give up our belief in God, just because someone, who doesn't understand or know Him, tells us He doesn't exist.

I don't understand why either. It's because I've read the Bible which is the reason why I don't believe in nor follow its teachings. I was wondering the same thing for the past few days. If only to try to prove a point, is the only reason I can think of why Christians would use Biblical passages to discuss with non-Christians.

I'm a Christian in that I believe that Christ is the son of God, part of the Trinity, God made man, etc...BUT and this is a big BUT, I refuse to believe that the Bible is to be taken literally. Even Jesus told the Pharisees and High Priests to read between the lines when they were taking scripture too literally, so it astounds me when fundamentalist Christians don't follow his good advice!
My favorite Gospel is the Book of James (apocryphal) where Jesus goes on to say that even going to temple is unnecessary because you can worship God in all of nature - blatantly obvious why the early bishops tossed this one out when they were choosing which Gospels should be included in the Bible!

when an argument between a christian and a non-christian, it is about beliefs correct. we believe in the bible, and non-Christians don't. so non-Christians will discuss their beliefs about the bible and Christians will discuss their beliefs on the bible, and bible topics.

furthermore, if you were debating an issue like global warming for example, someone who believes in global warming would say. take a look at this essay written by a scientist, here he says global warming exits, someone who doesn't believe in global warming is going to say, " that's great but i don't believe in that essay, i believe in this essay that shows global warming isn't a problem". Both people used different written text to prove their point even though both people don't believe the other's examples.

We answer with scripture because our faith is founded upon the Word of God. Whether you accept it or not, God's Word is never heard without the words accomplishing what he intended. Perhaps God allows you to read these words simply to give you the opportunity to choose to accept or reject it. Perhaps something else. So, with that being said, of course I will quote a scripture:
Isaiah 55
10 As the rain and the snow
come down from heaven,
and do not return to it
without watering the earth
and making it bud and flourish,
so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
11 so is my word that goes out from my mouth:
It will not return to me empty,
but will accomplish what I desire
and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.

They shouldn't argue in the first place.
There are different reasons for it.
I guess they use the Bible in their arguments because it is their truth and they believe it is the truth for others too. I am not talking about all Christians because many would not do that.

i cant coment on the whole constitution thing, but as 4 the Bible, ppl use it 2 bac up their faith cuz its the corner stone 4 it. the Bible wuznt meant 2 b a book of evidence, it wuz meant 2 help belivers through trials of their faith. that is such a miss conseption now. i understand that u dont belive the Bible and i dont use it in witnessing, i use my personal experiences with God, which is much more real 2 u and other non christians

You're forgetting one small detail: The Bible actually contains a rule that prohibits disbelieving it.

This pretty much takes care of any objections the atheists may raise, wouldn't you say?

It also contains a rule that prohibits disbelieving Jesus. So there really is nothing that non-christian people can do or say about that.

Christianity is basically the only religion that authenticates itself from the get-go, and you can thank the Bible for that. Amen?
