smoke weed?

There are several people in my family suffering from mental illnesses; Schizophrenia and Depression/anxiety and I was wondering if I could get one of these illnesses if I took drugs? And if so why?

thanks

Smoking weed will not make you get a mental illness because it runs in your family. Smoking weed could be a trigger that develops into mental illness but not because your family is mentally ill. Weed is a gateway drug to worse drugs and the side effects that weed has and other drugs have on your body could make you hallucinate. Any types of drugs are bad. Maybe your family has mental health issues because they took drugs and their bodies reacted to stopping or the drugs made them have problems that only prescribe medicine could help. Whatever the case maybe if you smoke weed or do any other drug you might as well be labeled as having a mental illness because street drugs or prescribed drugs your still medicating yourself because you can not handle day to day problems. Find out why it is you want to become a drug user and then deal with that problem. Life is hard enough without putting street drugs in the equation. Start loving yourself by finding out what problems you need to deal with in your life and SAY NO TO DRUGS. And you might say that weed is harmless but you have to remember that weed leads to other drugs and if you just continue to be a pot head than that can mess up your thinking. My family has mental health problems and I always say it’s because they are drug users. I've been diagnosed as being depression with psychotic features and I don't take prescribed drugs because I deal with my problems. I'm not on any medication and I say no to drugs and you can to because drugs lead to other problems.

You are genetically predisposed to these illnesses and while smoking weed won't cause you to to get them, maybe they could influence the conditions surrounding the onset of illness in you and would certainly exacerbate the illness if it reared its ugly head. These are serious medical conditions, so I urge caution (if not abstinence) in all recreational drug use and only moderate habits when it comes to drinking alcohol. It is a depressant and heavy usage will exacerbate the conditions of depression and anxiety for sure...

You don't want to risk any one of the above conditions - trust me, I have a family history of mental illness (now diagnosed bipolar 2 with mixed episodes, depressed and high at once, not a nice feeling) and staying away from weed because I know it could cause my illness to become worse is the best thing I have ever done.

I can see this is a serious question and a sensible one, so I apologise for the silly answers you have already got. If you take drugs you can get drug-induced psychosis. There is more of a risk of this if a close relative has had a psychotic episode in the past. Sometimes the psychosis you may get from drugs is very similar to schizophrenia.

As drugs can be a main trigger for mental health problems plus your inherited pre disposition that would be a bit silly wouldn't it, if u want a life of pain go ahead?

Drugs and weed mess with your brain chemicals. Will wave to you when i see you pass in the special bus.

Alcoholism is the main substantial thread seen on the two facets of my family contributors tree, with a sprinkling of upload thrown in for spice. I easily have been commemorated with a superb buddy with Bipolar disease and have had many frightening moments no longer understanding the place she grew to become into or if she grew to become into alive while she grew to become into on a down swing. definite, curler coaster is an apt description!

you would certainly be putting youself in the high risk catergory, if you did as you already, have an elevated chance, of carrying the genes, from the familys mental health, it has been proven, that these conditions can & in some cases are hereditary, so please think very very hard, before doing something like this please, i have mental health issues, as does my mum, my son is now on drugs, & believe me he is having problems. SO PLEASE BE WARNED.
