To answer your question, yes, they can. However it is not recommended at all unless you are an experienced breeder and have done extensive research on the pedigrees and such. I only know of one breeder who breeds that tightly.

you don't want to breed brother and sister dogs. That is inbreeding. The problem with inbreeding is that you get the best of the best and worst of the worst. You could get the smartest, most loyal, best looking pup and then the other pup could have 3 eyes and no tail. I mean, there is just too much chance with breeding brother and sister. If they're not littermates, then it's a teeny bit better, but still not good. You never know what you're going to get and you surely can't tell if you have any pups that are really nuts when they're 6 weeks old. I couldn't take on the liablilty for breeding bro and sis and then 2 years later, dude I sold the pup to comes back and says the dog attacked his 3 year old son out of nowhere. Sorry dude, but you shouldn't do it.

Many breeders specifically breed siblings or parents to pup. The problem with that is that it exaggerates the problems within the family line. But it is also done to exaggerate a trait in a family line. That is how breeds were and are created. And that is also the reason every breed has some genetic issues that show up all through the breed.

they can but That is something that has to be done with education and knowledge not jsut placing these two dogs together. You have to know the lines know what the dominate genes are what recessive genes these two dogs carry. Personally as a breeder I would never inbreed or line breed close to the tree.
If you did breed siblings and asking here you are of the uneducated and should not be doing such breeding

Yes Brother and Sister dogs can breed, but isn't advisable ,as that would be like A brother and Sister in human beings breeding and results would most likely be deformed, retarded litter.

Yes technically they can - they can produce offspring. The problem is that genetically, they will likely share mutations , which are often 'recessive' (not dominant).. When sisters and brothers breed, these mutations, or shared recessive traits can become visible which often lead to deformities or other visible problems (this is a very simplistic description of what happens.. there is more too it). It's not at all a good idea to allow breeding of close relatives.

That would be considered an inbreeding which in dogs does not mean the same thing as it does in humans. It can be done and IS done by experienced breeders with a ton of pedigree knowledge. To get a better understanding of the 3 different types of breedings, check out this page.

PS.. From a Vet?? I doubt it! A vet would not be asking such questions.

From a vet.. what???
You shouldn't breed brother and sister.. You are doubling up on the same faults / problems that they might carry.. and just plain locking them right in there..

Yes they can
Breeding in this manner should NEVER ever be considered unless the person knows the bloodlines and ALL of the health & temperament issues in it for many generations as well as conformational faults. It should never be done by someone who isn't very familiar with the genetics of the breed they are working with.

Yes. Any two dogs with their parts intact can breed. But bro/sis breeding is very tight inbreeding, and should only be attempted by an experienced breeder. (Many experienced breeders wont even breed that tight.)
