There are many climate zones covering different parts of the US and Canada, it would take a long time to eplain in detail. Fortunately here's a map shopwing those zones together with descriptions of each of the different zones. http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/climate.htm

In short, the US has a warmer and drier climate than Canada.

Canada ranges from year round freezing to the typical hot summers and cold winters experienced by most of the northern states. The largest part of Canada's population reside in the southern parts, in some places just a quick drive to the nearest American city.

Much cooler. I can't think of a place in Canada that has palm trees.
