I was thinking of joining the navy, but at the same time i wanted to be an artist.I'm aware that the navy offers career opportunity but i don't know if they offer career opportunity for artist, also what's the minimum time you can serve?,& what will be the best time to join,i was planning on joining at the beginning of 2008.Is the navy a good place for someone that really whant's to go, like me the resons that i want to go are:
1) want to make new friends.
2) travel
3) career help
4) adventure
5) been smoking some weed now for quite a while and can't seem to break that habit i get lazier everday.

Reasons that i don't want to go:

2) hearing rumors that u.s. want's to attack iran
3) never been laid so if i go and get send to iraq
4) have to pay for a car that i took out and pay back student loans.

you current use of marijuana is a DQ with zero chance of a waiver. get clean.. for at LEAST 12 months, and then MAYBE you can get into the Navy, but doubtful. if you have been using for loinger than six months, no branch will take you.

Well if you cant kick the drug habit dont bother joining, I am in the US Navy and while there arent many opportunities for Artists you should still find something that interests you and will get you a good civilian job after you get out.

1) don't want to go to iraq--- If you are willing to join the military you should agree that you will support and defend the consitution, ie. if they want you somewhere, you will go there. if you are willing to join you should be willing to fight.
2) hearing rumors that u.s. want's to attack iran--- same as above
3) never been laid so if i go and get send to iraq--- all you need is a navy uniform and you will have to fight the ladies off, especially in Australia.
4) have to pay for a car that i took out and pay back student loans.-- SCRA, Service Members Relief Act. Basically most all pre-existing loans that you have the military will put a ceiling on your Interest rate of 6% per annum. so dont worry about paying bills, plus the fact that its kinda hard to get fired from the Navy =P just as long as you follow the rules you will be okay.

Good Luck!

I think you be better off not joining...

1. You will most likely go to Iraq or some other type of deployment.
2. If you can't stop smoking weed you won't get pass MEPS anyways. If you did they do random drug test in the military all the time.
3. Don't think the Navy offers much for the career you want to pursue.

If you do still want to join good reason are

1. You will get money for college
2. You might find another job that you like
3. You will travel
4. You will be find someone to lay you
5. You might be able to go in for 2 years however you still do 8 all together. 2 years active and then 6 years inactive (but they can call you anytime).

Good luck.

if you want to travel the navy is the route to go. as well as finding a career and things of that nature. a drug test will be done before you can be accepted into the navy. this is a life changing decision and one that should be carefully thought through. if you are afraid of going to Iraq, maybe the military isnt the best option for you, because we cant say if you will be sent there or not. you can talk to a recruiter, but you need to make the best decision for you. if you get a government job (like i have) they have loan repayment/assistance. so getting a federal job is an option as well if the military isnt your cup of tea, good luck!

If you go to a ship you're not going to iraq. You might float around the persian gulf waters for a while but you're not going on land unless you're a seabee or something. (It's not that bvad floating around except for the heat. WHen I went it was like 140 degrees) Travel is cool, making new friends and money for college is good. You got to find out how to smoke weed though because they have random checks.
