Oneof the gift cards you can spend anywhere that takes them. That way, they can go anywhere, and buy anything they want.
Something of a keepsake, like a piece of crystal, a nice clock, something from a place like that place at the Mall, that sells things you can engrave.

anything to pertaining to his/ her hobby. Like a gift card, but whatever you do, don't do anything containing the "over the hill" crap. that stuff is tasteless,rude and just plain stupid. ( IMHO). but, to answer your question, find out what their personal interests are, and go from there. A giftcard would be my personal choice, like one for 25 $ should do it. that way they can buy what they want and you don't get upset if they don't like what you got them.
