Absolutely - lots of processed and packaged foods have expiration dates, they're there for a reason. After the date they really aren't safe to eat/drink. Opened or not, if it's past the expiration date you might get reeeeaaallly sick if you eat/drink it, particularly with dairy foods. With milk, one day past the expiration date may be okay, but anything after that and you'd be taking a big risk.

Yes definitely! Milk has bacteria swimming in there that ages the milk and by the stated expiration date that means it has gone bad regardless of it being opened or not. Often if the milk is 2 or 3 days past the expiration date it's still good, but smell it first, it it smells fine you can use it that day, if not dont' risk yourself getting sick. After 3 days max of the expiration date, throw it away!

Yes, but remember, it wasn't that long ago that no expiration or sell-by dates appeared on milk or anything else. If it looks, smells, and tastes okay, drink it without worry. If it seems off, even a little, pour it out.

Yes. There are bacteria in nearly everything we eat and drink. They are present in safe levels when consumed promptly, but when left to sit, even when the container is sealed, they can grow to the point that it is unsafe to consume.
