Your parents have NO legal right to your EMA payments!
They are paid directly into YOUR bank account.
Your parents obviously have no understanding of what EMA is for - which is to help out with the costs of staying in learning after 16; pay for books, travel or equipment related to school; saving for college; learning how to be responsible about money.
They are NOT for "repaying" your parents for the expenses of raising you .. they already get money or credit from the government for that. Besides, that is your parents duty and obligation, and not your responsibility to reimburse.

Tell the EMA people what your parents said, and ask them what to do. EMA payments are in NO way meant to enrich the parents of the child who is receiving them. That would be considered FRAUD, since your payments don't affect the government assistance the parents are already receiving. It is illegal and unethical for them to take the money from you for any reason. Perhaps they don't realize this. Doing so can result in them losing their government assitance, and you losing the EMA.

Find out if there are any underlying reasons for this. Probably not but you never know. I had a similar situation with my parents, many years ago, and it turned out that the real reason was that they didn't trust me with money. (Well they didn't teach me to manage money at all, so they were right in a way.)

Parents have a duty to raise their kids and should not expect anything back before you are 18, if ever. However as long as you under their roof they have got you over a barrel. Can you hide your money in a different bank account?

The EMA is a sweetener to get you to take post-16 education. It's supposed to make studying easier for you. Having all of go to your parents is against the spirit of this, if not the letter of the regulations. Are you going to university? This situation will need careful handling as you might not want to burn your bridges with them if you are!

As for salary, you should give them a portion (negotiate how much!) post-18 if you live in their house (food, bills etc.) but don't give them all of it!

Not sure what you mean by EMA. I'm in Scotland and I think you are in America. I take it you are working after school. When my girls had summer and weekend jobs while still at school I stopped giving them pocket money and they bought all there own clothes except school uniform which I still bought and I didn't charge them anything for their keep because they were still at school and I had gained by not having to give them an allowance every week. Maybe you could offer them some money for your keep but if they want it all then what is the point of working just wait till you are old enough to leave home but be warned when you do leave home you wont have much money to yourself after you have paid for rent, electric and or gas, food and other living expenses. Do you have any relatives you could speaks to that may help by speaking to your parents?

It does not belong to them, it belongs to you, but it wouldn't hurt to give them a bit of the money. My sister has EMA money, it takes a while for you to receive it, and when you do get it you then have to pay out for books and equipment that you may need for the course. So if your parents took all your money then they would have to pay for your stuff, just out of your money. It is a bit greedy of them to want it all and they shouldn't be aggressive about it.
If it really is that unbearable then maybe you can consider moving into a flat with friends once you turn 16.

Well will you be 18 when you have this job? If so they have no claims. Honestly I doubt your parents will take your money. At age 15 you may think they are being serious, but in reality it is a joke.

Your EMA is yours legally, as is any money that you earn once you have recieved your own national insurence number. However, it would be well within your parents rights to ask you to pay board/lodge, of a certain amount a week. Try not to panic too much, i'm sure teh debate has just got a little heated. Show them that your turning into a responsible adult and don't enter into a debate with them.

They have no legal right to take all of your earnings only a contribution. All parents have a legal responsibility to feed clothe and care for their children without obligation, because they wanted them. Tell them you will talk to social services about the problem!

They are legally required to pay for raising you, so they can't charge you for it. They are legally required to feed you and provide clothes until you are 18. They are being greedy. BUT it doesn't sound like you can do much about it. If you parents plan on taking your paycheck, then why bother working?

So can't happen. They took on the expense of raising you of their own choice when they decided to have you. You don't owe them anything. What I do suggest is for you not to make any money until you get out of the house and can end the harassment. If necessary, you can take the situation to court and have the judge tell them the same thing. Good luck!!!

Your parents are responsible for you until you are 18 years old. You have no responsibility to them after that.

Until you are 18, you have no legal responsibilities. Even if you sign a contract, it is void.

They are bull---ing you.

Sorry that your parents are such a**holes. They are full of it.

Get a lawyer if you have to. Or talk to the child legal services in your area.

Good luck!
