You are right. That is why you have hyper-Calvinists who believe in predestination. The only real alternative is that people are saved by faith and works, just as the Bible (and the majority of Christians) maintain.

You are right that confession and prayer are works. Faith, too, is a work Jesus commanded. Faith requires acting on the evidence of revelation even when it contradicts common sense and worldly wisdom.
For this reason, the debate between faith and works is poorly conceived. To win back a good relationship with God requires a succession of works: baptism (Mark 16:16; John 3:5), believing Christ and putting faith in him (e.g., Luke 7:50, 8:12), self-renunciation (e.g., Matt 5:3, 10), repentance (Matt 3:2; 4:17; 18:8-9; Mark 9:42-48), obedience to God, doing what is right and just (e.g., Luke 10:25-28; John 12:50), adopting the humility of a child (Matt 18:3-4; 19:14), eating the bread of life (John 6:51, 53-54), and endurance to the end (Matt 10:22, 24:13; Mark 13:13, Luke 21:16-18).
Cheers,
Bruce

Basically you need to spend many hours every day praising Jesus, in order to be saved. Yes, that's work; but that's what Jesus wants to hear.
Jesus is more interested in hearing praise from you, than in hearing how many sins you've overcome. Jesus wants praise and he wants a lot of it. Moreover, he wants to hear it loudly and with great fervent emotion.
If you can't manage that, then just resign yourself to Hell after you die.

You can not be saved by works. There is no scoreboard in heaven. You either do or don't accept Christ as your savior. Freewill. Your choice. So is life and death. Enjoy.
This is my humble opinion. You are free to choose to accept it or don't. In the end, all I have done is answer your question. I will now take my two points and go and answer another question. Thank you.

LOL - they don't answer because they CANNOT. No matter how much they try to explain it away, the Bible says you must have both. Jesus says 'those who DO the will of my Father"
DO...not say!!

Faith is what is required for salvation, not works. Faith is evidenced by works or it doesn't exist. If you have faith, you have works. Show me you have faith apart from your works and I'll show you I have faith by my works. Saving faith produces saving works but saving works produce nothing. It is still your faith that saves you.

In the book of Ephesians 2:8 &9, the Bibles says, For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. I think most Christians just want other to be clear that nothing we can do earns us salvation, it was all done by Jesus on the cross at calvery. When he arose from the grave he forever washed us clean, now all we do is confess, Romans 10:9-10, That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Of course our confession means of all our sins, They are what seperate us from God and why Jesus came to earth, Jesus was Perfect, he had no sin. He was our ranson for sins. Now if you are really born again, John3:3, the fruit you produce in your life will show unto good works, if there is no good works in your life then you had better be looking into your soul to see if you really have a personal relationship with Jesus. When we repent and accept Christ as our Saviour we should make a change. Sometimes it takes people awhile to make that change but slowly Jesus will draw you close to him and you will start to produce good works by the grace of God that is in you. The Bible says we can not Judge whether a person is saved or not because we can't see his heart but we can see his works and judge whether they are the fruits of righteousness or thee works of the devil. By your fruits ye are known. I hope you know Jesus as your Lord and Saviour, if not here is sinners Prayer that will help you to know if you are truly saved, Dear Jesus, I know and confess that I am sinner in need of salvation. I believe you died on a cross at calvery and arose from the grave to wash away my sins, I ask you right now to come into my heart and save me, I pray this Prayer believing in the name of Jesus Amen. If you prayed this prayer with a sincere heart you are now a child of God, rejoice that your name is written in the Lambs book of Life. Jesus will now send his Holy Spirit to come and live in your heart and guide you into all truth. If you have any questions just send me an email, God Bless YOU!!
