Suppose I paint my face green, wear a large rubber nose, and put warts on my chin. That would make fun of serious witches and warlocks who believe in the Wiccan religion. Would I be insensitive? Worse, would that be a hate crime?

I'm enjoying the good humored comments from Wiccans. But project your views a few years into the future of political correctness. Isn't it conceivable that mocking a Wiccan would be treated as seriously as, say, drawing a cartoon about Muhammad? That it might be treated as a hate crime?

PC has gotten out of hand! I would venture to say that the only witch that will be offended is of the "fluffy bunny" variety! It is my opinion that you are not making fun of witches, but are making fun of an archaic image of a witch!
I think it is a fun thing to do! So go out and have fun with it! (don't forget your rubber spiders)
What you need to remember is don't take life too seriously.....it's only temporary!

No. The caricature of witches have been going hand in hand with Halloween for many years. Most people can tell the difference between that and taking a personal shot at witch. It is not a hate crime to dress up on Halloween as a witch/warlock - if that were so, a good many people have been in jail before now.

Well, it might be thought a hate crime but we won't hunt you down and kill you.
I'm more offended by the term "warlock". I'm male and I'm a wiccan or witch. "Warlock" is a term used by witch hunters and means "traitor". I may be many things but traitor isn't one of them.
Oh and be careful with the green face paint. It's hard to get off and leaves you looking bilious if you aren't careful.
Above all...Have fun and play safe!
Happy Halloween to all and to all a good fright! (groan)

ok, the terminology is somewhat bit a minefield. Witches may well be male or woman - incredible. i'm male, I call myself a witch. Warlock is seen an insult - incredible. i would be unable to enable anybody to tell me that i'm a warlock. I constantly positioned them astonishing. i'm insulted no longer plenty through fact i think slighted, yet greater by potential of their lack of expertise. i do no longer like it while ignorant human beings tell me i'm incorrect to call myself a Witch through fact they think of they be attentive to greater useful than I do. Witches do no longer desire to be observed as Wiccans. i'm *additionally* a Wiccan. So i may well be observed as a Witch and a Wiccan. Witch and Wiccan are 2 quite a few issues. Many Witches are additionally Wiccans. Many Wiccans are additionally Witches. yet they are not synonyms in any respect. Many Witches are no longer Wiccans, and a great form of Wiccans are no longer Witches. in certainty, in case you call a non-Wiccan Witch a Wiccan, you are able to anticipate a dusty reaction, and the comparable in case you call a Wiccan a Witch while they are not a Witch. Wizards are *no longer* a greater advantageous form of Wiccan. in certainty, Wizards are no longer Wiccans. Wizards many times belong to initiatic orders of the Western secret custom. Sorcerer - i flow to bypass on that one.

Before they made expensive costumes out of cheap lining material, kids used to dress up as hobos and lumberjacks because everybody always had old clothes or plaid shirts in their closets. Transients and woodsmen seldom kicked up a fuss about it.

We have a pretty good sense of humor and tolerance. You'd be surprised how many of us dress up as wicked witches ourselves. Try dressing up like Jesus and see what kinds of reactions you get.

You know what, I can't stand PC BS so, go for it. It doesn't hurt me or my emotions, and if someone is so sensitive that a costume makes him or her angry, that person needs to get some mental help.
