Serve others

Everyone is BORN self-absorbed, so you're in the majority! I think the reason turning two is so "terrible" is that it's the first time we start to suspect the world isn't there just to serve us - and that's a big bummer of a revelation.

In any case, approach it the same way as any new healthy habit - in small changes. When I decided to start eating healthier, I did one little thing at a time - switch to 2% milk, lay off Coke, etc..., and it made a difference.

Maybe you can decide at the beginning of the day what small change you want to make - something like, "I will let someone go ahead of me when we tie at a stop sign today, and be glad I did." You might make someone else feel better, and you will have started accomplishing your goal, too.

Then the next day, pick something else: hold open a door for someone older and slower, smile back at someone, say "thank you" to my waiter, any creative idea you can have.

It's awesome that you're trying - best of luck! If only everyone would, huh?

Go out and take stroll along Skid Row and see all the homeless and displaced people; see if you still manage to be so self absorbed. Sometimes it takes the shock of seeing the sufferings of others to realize how unimportant and petty your problems are.

Energy, turn this over to the Lord, in prayer! It is human nature to be somewhat like this but, eventually, life teaches us that it is NOT all about us! In fact, being totally focused upon oneself can lead to missing out on a tremendous amount of truths, in this world!

I am going to pray that you will be able to overcome much of this so that your eyes will see much more than self-absorbtion, will allow! May God bless you, on your spirtual journey!

Read Ayn Rand. (That's a joke!) No, seriously, try to help others. Perhaps one good deed a day for another, for a start.
