ignore my type, obviously this is supposed to read "what is the point of life"

leviathan , that is probably true, but considering that people ask about ten times a day over the course of 2 years of YA! someone must actually care to read the answers.

I'm fairly certain that such people aren't interested in the answers.

Most of them mean 'life is pointless without god, why don't you people just kill yourselves?'

Indeed, some even state it like that.

*Hmm... The lack of response from anyone who's actually done that tells us something, I think. I guess the question just means 'you people don't have a purpose in my opinion'*

What I felt as a Christian used to be extra a sense of being riskless than happiness. My perception within the Christian god made me suppose that someone used to be looking over me and my family. I did have a tough time getting over understanding that no such god existed (I used to be an adolescent). 20+ years later, I am happier now than I've ever been. There is a force and a trust in understanding I can manage so much matters lifestyles throws at me. Do I wish to feel in a deity? I do not care in some way. It's a waste of time for me to even believe approximately it (it is analogous to brooding about how lifestyles could be if I had been a unicorn).

I think their answers can be put into one of three categories:

1) Keep busy. "live life to the fullest" is the most popular phrase. Keeping busy keeps us from thinking about a pointless existence.

2) Focus on little bits of everyday happiness. "I look forward every day to my dog". Keep the focus away from thoughts about a pointless existence.

3) Inflate the ego. "Make a difference in the world" is a popular phrase for this. This invites us to get our worth through real and imagined praise. They rationalize that if we have worth, we must have purpose. The problem here is that it is like one rock praising another. Does that give the first rock worth?

I asked that question a long time ago and I learned a great deal about humanity and how completely unnecessary a belief in God really is.

No atheist has ever told me I am going to hell.

No atheist has ever threatened my life.

Religious nut jobs have done both of those to me.

For me, I think there is a God but He is not that biblical monster.

I really don't care if they are not satisfied with the replies. I'm not satisfied with the replies on why they believe.

It's different for each person, we have to make or find our own meaning, some people might not need to find meaning....it's okay whichever way you look at it.
